WHY DID TWO WITNESSES APPEAR WITH JESUS AT HIS ASCENSION?

By Marilyn Agee

They are the two witnesses that are to come back with Jesus at the time of the Mid-trib Rapture.

Act 1:8-11 says, "But ye (i.e., the apostles) shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, TWO MEN (i.e., Moses and Elijah) stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come IN LIKE MANNER as ye have seen him go into heaven."

MOSES AND ELIJAH RETURN WITH CHRIST MID-TRIB

To John, Rev 10:11 says, "Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings."

The next thing John wrote, Rev 11:1-4, is about the Rapture and the arrival of Moses and Elijah.

Rev 11:1-4 says, "And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, RISE (i.e., in the Mid-Trib Rapture), and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. 3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses (i.e., MOSES AND ELIJAH), and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days (i.e., during the Great Tribulation), clothed in sackcloth. 4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth."

THE TWO OLIVE TREES, AND THE TWO CANDLESTICKS REPRESENT MOSES AND ELIJAH

Zec 4:11-14 says, "Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? 12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? 13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. 14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth."

MOSES AND ELIJAH STAND BY JESUS AT THE TRANSFIGURATION

Mat 17:1-11 says, "And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. 4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. 9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. 10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? 11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things."

BOTH THE TRANSFIGURATION AND THE RAPTURE, THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST, TAKE PLACE MID-TRIB

Rev 1:9-18 says, "I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, 11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. 12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."

THE RAPTURE WILL COME BEFORE THE TABERNACLE OF DAVID IS SET UP

Act 15:14-16 says, "Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. 15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, 16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up".

THE TRANSFIGURATION,THE PREVIEW OF THE MID-TRIB RAPTURE, IDENTIFIES THE TWO WITNESSES AND SHOWS THAT THE RAPTURE IS NEAR, BUT NOT ON, THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES

Mar 9:1-8 says, "And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. 2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. 3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. 5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. 7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves."

THE SIGN IN REV. 12 WILL BE IN THE SKY ON THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS, OCT. 3, 2016

I have high hopes that Oct. 3, 2016 will be the day of the Mid-Trib Rapture. Agape

> > Thus, in Revelation 11, the two witnesses are not literally Elijah and Moses (or Elijah and Enoch), but two men whom God will raise up in the spirit and power of their Old Testament counterparts. They are similar from the standpoint of their ministries, but similarity does not mean identity. Their ministries are similar because they are ministering to Israel and such similarity would carry great significance to the Jews....

> > They are simply two exceptional men whom God will raise up in the Tribulation....

> > These are two olive trees and two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth" (vs. 4). These two figures are taken from Zechariah 4:1-14 in order to emphasize the truth of this Old Testament passage as it will relate to these two witnesses of the Tribulation.

> > Likewise, in this Old Testament passage there were two witnesses to God's people: Joshua, the high priest (Zech. 3), and Zerubbabel, the civil leader (Zech. 4). Further, this Old Testament passage occurred in connection with the rebuilding of the temple, which was small by comparison to the temple of Solomon that had been destroyed. This smallness had become a matter of reproach to the people who were looking at things as they appeared (according to sight) rather than spiritually (according to faith) (cf. Zech. 4:10). When Zechariah saw the two olive trees and the lampstand he asked, "What are these my Lord?" The answer given was a word of comfort and encouragement, but also a warning. In verse 6 he is told, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel saying, not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts (armies)....

> > So in the Tribulation, the temple will be an apostate one, Jerusalem will be like Sodom and Egypt (Rev. 11:8), and the beast will at this time have set up his image in the temple, proclaiming himself as God (cf. 2 Thess. 2:4; Rev. 13:2-8). Regardless, in times of apostasy and "small things" (Zech. 4:10), when things seem bad, God has His witnesses who operate, not by the power and skill of men, but by the power and might of the Lord of Armies." https://bible.org/seriespage/17-temple-two-witnesses-and-seventh-trumpet-rev-111-19

Luk 21:25-27 says, "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory."

Rev 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars".

Luk 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."

That could be true. Jesus is given the seven-sealed book after the First-Trump Rapture. However, the Rapture could take place Oct. 3, 2016. The sign in Rev. 12 will be in the sky that night.

Rev 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter."

Rev 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth." MY REPLY TO A QUESTION ON THE INTERNET

> > The "question is, will the third temple be built before the rapture, coming of Chirst (i.e., Christ)? Or could the rapture happen before the temple is built?"

> > The "Answer: We believe the third temple must be built before the Rapture. Matthew 24:16-31 indicates that a temple will exist in Jerusalem at the time when great tribulation breaks out. It goes on to say that the Rapture will take place after the tribulation of those days.' This scenario is confirmed in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, which says that the revealing of the man of sin in the temple must take place before ‘the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,' a clear reference to the Rapture." http://www.gloriouschurch.com/Questions-Answers-Details.asp?QuestID=3682 Matthew 24:16-31 indicates that a temple will exist in Jerusalem at the time when great tribulation breaks out. It goes on to say that the Rapture will take place 'after the tribulation of those days.' This scenario is confirmed in 2 Thessalonians 2
My first thought is that the Temple of the Holy Spirit must be gone before the literal Temple can be built.

Rev 11:1-3 says, "And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, RISE (i.e., in the Mid-Trib Rapture), and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. (i.e., during the Great Tribulation) 3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth."

To me, Moses and Elijah will come at the time of the Mid-Trib Rapture, and get the literal Temple built.

2Th 2:1-9 says, "Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ (i.e., should be day of the Lord, as in Vatican, Siniatic, and Alexadrine codices) is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away (i.e., DEPARTURE, as in the Geneva Bible) FIRST, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then (tote, at that time) shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders". AN INCOMING EMAIL, RE: Marilyn - 2 witnesses - WHY DID MOSES AND ELIJAH APPEAR WITH JESUS AT THE TRANSFIGURATION?

Clearly this is a controversial topic as we must glean, only from clues, our conclusions. My understanding is the TWO WITNESSES are the Church and Israel here's why:
Zechariah 4:11-14 says, "Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? 12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? 13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. 14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth."

TWO GROUPS of people who are the ONLY TWO WITNESSES in all the earth who stand for the only true God ARE:

1. true believers in Christ Jesus the Son of God, Christians or formally known as the WILD OLIVE TREE = the Church

2. the other witness standing before the one true God the NATURAL OLIVE TREE = Israel

Revelation 20:4 "...and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the WITNESS of Jesus AND for the WORD of God." 15:3 "And they sang the song of Moses the servant of God AND the song of the Lamb."

TWO different songs that cannot be sung by any ONE individual group of people, because they are victory songs sung by those who have been brought victory buy the one whom the song is about.

The children of Israel were brought to victory by Moses being delivered from Egypt through the Red Sea. And we as Christians are brought to victory through the blood of the Lamb. We each have our own song to sing.

Compare Rev 11:11-12 to Psalm 79:2,3 "The dead bodies of YOUR SERVANTS have been given unto the fowls of heaven, the flesh of YOUR SAINTS unto the beast of the earth. Their blood have they like water shed round about Jerusalem: and there was none to bury them."

The two dead bodies blood all around Jerusalem ... That's a lot of blood.

Revelation 11:3 "I will GIVE power unto my two witnesses..."

Luke 24:49,49 "And you are WITNESSES of these things. And behold, I send the PROMISE of my Father upon you: tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with (or given) POWER from on high."

Acts 1:8 "But you shall receive (be given) POWER after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and you shall be WITNESSES unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria and to the uttermost part of the earth (standing before or for God in all the earth

He gives power to His witnesses and not "I will SEND two witnesses who will have power" as the TWO WITNESSES are already here in the earth. The church and the Jews are already witnessing for God.

MY REPLY

To me, the two witnesses are two men. They are killed, and their bodies lie in the street of Jerusalem for three days. Then, they stand upon their feet and are caught up to Heaven. At that time, there is a great earthquake. A tenth part of Jerusalem falls.

In Rev 10:11, John was told, "Thou must prophesy AGAIN before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings."

Therefore, the "RISE" in the next verse is the Mid-Trib Rapture of the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Both Raptures are represented in Rev 11:1-13.

Rev 11:10 says that the TWO WITNESSES are "TWO PROPHETS". How can you get around that?

Rev 11:1-13 says, "And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, RISE (i.e., the Mid-Trib First-Trump Rapture of ITh 4:16,17), and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months (i.e., during the Great Tribulation). 3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses (i.e., Moses and Elijah, seen coming at the time of the Mid-Trib Rapture in the Transfiguration), and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. 5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. 6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. 7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. 8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. 9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. 10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these TWO PROPHETS tormented them that dwelt on the earth. 11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. 12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, COME UP HITHER (i.e., the Last-Trump Rapture of ICo 15:51-54). And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. 13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven."

The Transfiguration tells us who these two witnesses are, and shows us that the Feast of Tabernacles is near at the time of the Rapture.

Mat 17:1-11 says, "And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart (i.e., as if in the Mid-Trib Rapture), 2 And was transfigured before them: and HIS FACE DID SHINE AS THE SUN, AND HIS RAIMENT WAS WHITE AS THE LIGHT.

John expands on this in Rev 1:9-18.

It says, "I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation (i.e., Mid-Trib), and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos (i.e., meaning mortal), for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10 I was (lit., became) in the Spirit on the Lord's day (i.e., the Day of Christ), and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, 11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. 12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14 His head and his hairs were WHITE like wool, as WHITE as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."

To me, at the Transfiguration, Jesus showed us who the two witnesses are, Moses and Elijah.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ is written as if it is Mid-Trib.

THE PROOF: Rev 2:22 says, "Behold, I will cast her (i.e., Jezebel, of the church of Thyatira) into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into GREAT TRIBULATION, except they repent of their deeds." Agape
