Controversy revisits Shroud of Turin

By Dan Vergano, USA TODAY, posted 4-6-04
http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2004-04-06-turin-usat_x.htm

Experts have widely considered the 14-foot-long linen sheet, which has been kept since 1578 in a cathedral in Turin, Italy, a forgery since carbon-dating tests were performed in 1988. Those tests placed its origin at A.D.1300.

But Secrets of the Dead: Shroud of Christ (PBS, tonight, 8 ET/PT), presents evidence that narrator Liev Schreiber says is "making it possible it was indeed the shroud of Christ":

• Textile historian Mechthild Flury-Lemberg suggests the cloth's weave resembles material from a first century A.D. ruin in Israel.

• Photographer Barrie Schwortz of 1978's Shroud of Turin Research Project says ultraviolet photos show that the carbon-dating sample came from an unrepresentative area of the shroud....

Joe Zias of Hebrew University of Jerusalem calls the shroud indisputably a fake. "Not only is it a forgery, but it's a bad forgery."

Zias says the shroud depicts a man whose front measures 2 inches taller than his back and whose elongated hands and arms would indicate he was afflicted with gigantism if it were real.

My reply

The shape of the head could cause the back to differ in length from the front. Why wouldn't the arms elongate when the weight of the dead body was pulling them down? It seems that the long arms verifiy the Crucifixion, and the picture on the shroud verifies the Resurrection. Individual decisions can be skewed by whether they believe in Christ or not.

The Apparitions

There have been around 20,000 recorded appearances in the last 1,000 years, but they have been building up in the last days. In fact, the following dates show that since the 10th century, the worship of Mary has intensified:

1. In 1037, King St. Stephen declared Hungary to Mary
2. In 1381, Richard II consecrated England to Mary
3. In 1638, France was consecrated by order of Louis XIII
4. In 1656, Poland was given to Mary by King Casmimir
5. In 1664, King John IV consecrated all of Portugal to Mary
6. In 1665, Austrian leaders gave their country to Mary
7. In 1846, The Bishops of America "place themselves under the patronage of the Holy Mother of God"....

The main messages of the apparitions:

Let the people be united into one religion
Let the people look to Mary as their source of peace, hope and salvation
Let Mary and the Rosary bring unity and peace to the world
MANY of the apparitions state "if the world will convert to my immaculate
heart, I will bring peace and give the world salvation". The emphasis is
RARELY on Christ, almost all of them are exalting Mary as the way to salvation.

The fall of Communism was due to Pope John Paul II more than any other man in history. Almost every thing that is happening right now in the Catholic church is being based on the apparition of Fatima, including the future. When the Pope was elected, he was the first non Italian Pope, a Communist Polish man, in 400 years. On May 13, 1981, the anniversary of the Lady of Fatima apparition, the Pope was in St. Peter's square in the vatican. A little girl was holding a picture of the Lady of Fatima, and the Pope leaned over to kiss the picture. Just as he did so, he was shot by a Polish man. If he wouldn't have leaned over, he would have been shot in the heart. So the Pope surmised it was the lady of Fatima that saved his life. He then went back to the vatican and pulled together all the information he could about the Fatima apparition, and he studied it intensely. Shortly thereafter, the Pope said "The only way to save the world from war is to save it from atheism...it is the conversion of Russia to Fatima."

In the apparition of Fatima, it was told the children that if they would give Russia over to my heart, I would convert Russia. When the Pope read this, he made it his mission to get that message to Russia. His motto was "Completely yours", meaning the Lady of Fatima. On May 13, 1982, again on the anniversary of the Fatima apparition, the Pope publicly gave the world to the immaculate heart, which was required in the original apparition in 1917.

So, the Pope made it his mission to crush Communism and atheism, obeying the words of "Mary" in the apparition of Fatima, and that is what he did in 1981 and 1982. Shortly thereafter, we saw Communist regimes fall in Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, etc. The Pope got the "Christians" in these countries stirred up by his connection to Fatima, and the result was the fall of Communism. The apparition of Fatima was so strong that the Pope dedicated his life to fulfilling its teachings. That is the power of the Fatima apparation.

The Pope believed that there will be an apparition in the future, possibly in 1999 or 2000, that the whole world will be able to see. Many people will be converted to Catholicism, and it will declare HIM to be the world leader of all religions....

The crescent moon. Many of the apparitions of Mary have Mary on or near a moon. The Muslims have the moon as a symbol....

Prayer Beads:

Muslims have prayer beads that have 33, 66 or 99 names of God. They pray to Allah with these in their hands. For Catholics, they use a rosary, which has a crucifix and a picture of Mary and Jesus. You pray 50+ hail Mary's, then several glory to God's. The Rosary has become a MAJOR focal point of many of the more recent apparitions of Mary.

Here is a quote from "The Rosary, Your Key to Heaven":

"The Rosary is a means of salvation, because a true child of Mary is never lost and one who says the Rosary daily is truly Mary's child...Mary is our all powerful advocate and she can obtain from the heart of her Divine Son whatever is good for her children...No one is beyond redemption if he but turns to Mary Immaculate."

This is ALL based on the apparitions. During the apparitions in Egypt Coptic church, both groups had their prayer beads and were praying to MARY, not Christ....

The Fatima Connection

Everything being said about the last days within the Catholic church is being based on what happened at Our Lady of Fatima in 1917. One of the reasons the Fatima apparition is so important is because of the "secret". The children were given three visions of the future in the apparition: one was a vision of hell, one was devotion to Mary's heart, namely the consecration of Russia, then the third secret, which was never publicly revealed but is known to the Pope, the Bishop of Fatima, and perhaps several other bishops and cardinals.

The third part of this secret has not been revealed, but the Bishop of Fatima said the following about it: "We must return to the Rosary and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for Mary is the last anchor of salvation for a world gone wrong" [emphasis mine]. Mary the last anchor of salvation? Mary needed salvation herself…she was a sinner, contrary to the "immaculate heart" theory of the Catholic church. JESUS is the last anchor, the ONLY anchor, of salvation for a world gone wrong.

The Muslims also have a secret that is to be revealed in the last days. A former Muslim from Persia wrote a book and said that as Muhammed was dying, he whispered a secret to Fatima, and that secret is to be revealed at the end of days. So we have a very possible connection with the two religions have a secret to be revealed at the end of days.

When a priest of the Catholic church comes by to bless a Muslim, the Muslim will kiss the rosary if the priest will pull the cross off. To Islam, the cross is the hindrance, but they will kiss the virgin Mary if the cross is taken off the prayer beads....

..."African Muslims themselves are seeing apparitions of the Virgin Mary and are not required to become Christians to follow Mary." - Christian World Report, 1992. The apparitions are not requiring anyone to becoming a Christian. Does anyone honestly believe that these apparitions could be Mary, when she knew the gospel story and was an eyewitness to it? That she should be exalted instead of Christ? NO WAY!!

If you eliminate the diety of Christ and make Mary the way to salvation, you can bring in Islam with Christianity. There are Catholic cardinals which have actually stated they believe that Mary will bring the Muslims to Christianity because of the apparitions of Mary....

Many Catholic writers even admit the false prophet will be a defective Pope. Saint Malachi prophesied that after the current Pope, there will be one of olive complexion that will rule for a short time, then the final Pope will be destroyed along with Rome....

Daniel 8:25 says the antichrist, through his policy, will cause craft to prosper in his hand. The word craft means the occult sciences will prosper...muslims are not to do occultic things, but they are and they have been growing rapidly....

Denying the Son of God

I John 2:22, I John 4:3, and II John 1:7 all talk about the antichrist spirit denying Jesus is the son of God...in the Bible, Jesus is called the Son of God by the following:

the angel Gabriel - Luke 1:35
by a demonic spirit!!! - Matt 8:29
by the disciples - Matt 14:33
by Simon Peter - Matt 16:16
by the Roman centurion at the cross - Matt 15:39
by John the Baptist - John 1:34
by the Ethiopian eunuch - Acts 8:37
The prophet Muhammed claims that the angel Gabriel gave him his revelation, and therefore taught him that Jesus is the NOT the Son of God. However, the angel Gabriel in Luke 1:35 said Jesus is the Son of God.

What, then, does Islam teach about Jesus being the Son of God?...

"NEVER DID ALLAH TAKE TO HIMSELF A SON, and never was there with him any (other) god . . ." (Sura 23:91)
In order to have the religions come together, there has to be a denial that Jesus is the Son of God. Islam is already there, and the defective Pope will preach this and perform false miracles....

The Pope is expecting a second Fatima that will illuminate everything and draw all religions to theirs....

My reply

Thanks. I haven't seen this before.

Incoming email, Re: Your Site

Thank you Marilyn and a pleasure to meet you.I must ask one other thing. How on earth do you hold the Bridal view you do and go to a Baptist church? I too go to a Baptist in Wellington, New Zealand, and we teach the 10 virgins is to Israel.I asked my assistant pastor this morning and that was his understanding, however, like you, I have never been really convinced of that.

My reply

I can worship God with those that have the right beliefs about Christ. That's what is important. We can be wrong about other things and still make it to Heaven. The Bible is so packed with information, no two of us are going to agree on every point. Rom. 14:5 says, "Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." II Tim. 2:15 says, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." I sure took "Study" to heart.

I have done my own studying independently. Knowing that human beings are not perfect, in case of differing opinions, I just follow the Bible. With a little digging, it interprets itself.

Not everything on one subject is in one place. The more we know about the whole Bible, the easier it is to see what one passage means. No part should be skipped. All clues should be brought together to see the whole picture on any one subject.

Isa. 28:13 says, "But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken."

Dan. 12:10 says, "the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand."

In Mark 13:23, Jesus said, "But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things." The clues are there. We just have to find them. It takes the help of the Spirit of Christ to recognize them and interpret what we find.

There were no chapter and verse divisions in the original Bible manuscripts. Dan. 11:45 must be taken with Dan. 12:1-3 to understand the timing. Mt. 24:37-51 precedes Mt. 25:1.

Mt. 24:50,51; 25:1,2 says, "The lord of that servant (the evil servant) shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him (the evil servant) asunder (cut him off at the Pre-Trib Rapture, Luke 12:46), and appoint him his portion (the shortened Tribulation) with the hypocrites (pretenders): there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then (tote, at the same time) shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise ('ready,' 24:44), and five (evil servants, 24:48) were foolish" (not ready).

Luke 12:45,46 agrees with Mt. 24:50,51. Luke said, "But and if that servant (the unwise, foolish one) say in his heart, My lord (words of a believer) delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant (the unwise foolish one) will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him (the foolish servant) in sunder (lit., cut him off), and will appoint him his portion (the shortened Tribulation) WITH THE UNBELIEVERS." Therefore, the foolish virgins are believers who get cut off and have to stay on Earth with the unbelievers during the shortened Tribulation.

All ten virgins had lighted lamps (i.e., they are all sealed with the Holy Spirit). They all understood enough to take their lamps and go forth to meet Christ at the Rapture. Only at midnight did the foolish realize that they did not have extra oil of the Holy Spirit in their vessels (bodies) with their lamps. John 13:10 says, "Jesus saith to him (Peter), He that is washed (of his 'old sins', II Peter. 1:9, forgiven when he accepted Christ) needeth not save to wash his feet (i.e., confess his sins since he accepted Christ, I John 1:9), but is clean every whit: and ye are clean."

The Philadelphian wise virgins, for whom Jesus has no words of condemnation, have the "open door" set before them (Rev. 3:8). "And while they (the foolish virgins) went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were READY went in with him to the marriage: and THE DOOR WAS SHUT."

"Afterward came also the other virgins (those not ready), saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily (amen, so be it) I say unto you, I KNOW YOU NOT." The foolish virgins are cut off. They are foolish Laodiceans that have a sin barrier between them and the Lord. They are not ready. Jesus has words of condemnation for them. They are not wearing white garments. Before they can be caught up in the Pre-Wrath Rapture, they must wash their robes in the blood of Christ (i.e., confess their sins) (Rev. 7:14).

The Bride saints are caught up in the Pre-Trib Rapture. The rest of the saints are caught up in the Pre-Wrath Rapture, maybe 2300 days after the 1st Rapture (Dan. 8:13,14). There are 144,000 Israelites that will be added to the Bride group at the 2nd Rapture. They are "virgins," also, "being the firstfruits unto God and the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are WITHOUT FAULT before the throne of God" (Rev. 7:4,5). Therefore, the Marriage of the Lamb takes place in Heaven when the Bride is complete right after the Pre-Wrath Rapture. The great multitude that no man can number of Rev. 7:9 will be invited to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Shalom and Agape

I have a question about the parables and the dispensations. Someone had said to me that the parables that Jesus gave such as the foolish virgins, wheat and tares, sheep and goats, etc... do not apply to the church but only the Jews because that was who He was talking to. They say that the church was not around yet and so these parables do not refer to the church but only to the Jews because salvation was preached to them first. I am trying to make sense out of all of this. Can you please help me understand? Thank you so much for all you do. I love your website!

My reply

Thanks for your kind words.

The early Church was among those to whom Matthew wrote in 66 AD. They found a papyrus that revealed the date. Even if he wrote it in 37 AD, as was thought earlier, he would have been writing to many Jewish members of the Church.

II Tim. 3:16 settles it, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."

Anyway, if we threw out Matthew, because it was written to the Jews, what would we do with many of the same things that appear in Mark, Luke and John? Would we have to throw out the Old Testament too? It was written to the Hebrews. No, none of that will work. The whole thing, from Genesis 1 through Rev. 22, is God's word to mankind. It was given to the Hebrews, but was intended to go out from there to the whole world, and it has.

However, we have to use discernment in applying Old Testament scriptures. Not everything applies to the Church, but many end-time prophecies are there. In our search for clues to help us understand the Godhead, we certainly need the whole Bible. Agape

My outgoing e-mail, Re: YHWH/Yahshua

While waiting for Ed at the doctor's, I started listing some interesting verses from the Hebraic-roots Version. I just had to type them up when I got home.

For comparison, in the Old Testament, Isa. 45:21-23 (KJV) says, "who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD (YHWH)? and there is NO GOD ELSE BESIDE ME; A JUST GOD AND A SAVIOUR; there is none beside me. LOOK UNTO ME, AND BE YE SAVED, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That UNTO ME EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW, every tongue shall swear."

In the New Testament, Rom. 14:9-14 (HRV) says, "Messiah died and is alive and is raised that he might be YHWH to the dead and to the living....As it is written, I live, says YHWH. EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME and every tongue will confess me. Therefore let us not judge one another...I know and am persuaded by YHWH YESHUA that there is not a thing that is defiled from itself..."

John 12:12,13 (HRV) says, "when they heard that Yeshua was coming to Yerushalayim, they were crying and saying, Hoshianna, blessed is he who comes in the name of YHWH, THE KING OF ISRAEL" (as in Isa. 44:6).

Acts 9:29 (HRV) says, "Bar Nabba took him and brought him to the emissaries and related to them hoe on the road HE HAD SEEN YHWH and how he spoke with him and how in Darm'suk HE SPOKE BOLDLY IN THE NAME OF YESHUA."

Acts10:36 (HRV) says, "YESHUA THE MESSIAH, HE IS YHWH OF ALL."

Regarding communion, I Cor. 11:27 (HRV) says, "whoever eats of THE BREAD OF YHWH and drinks from his cup and is not worthy, he is indebted to THE BLOOD OF YHWH and to his body."

I Cor. 12:3 (HRV) says, "there is no one who speaks by the spirit of Eloah (God) and says that Yeshua is accursed. And neither is a man able to say that YHWH IS YESHUA except by the Ruach HaKodesh" (Holy Spirit).

Revealing the Trinity, I Cor. 12:4-6 (HRV) says, "there are distributions of gifts but the SPIRIT IS ONE (the Holy Spirit). And there are distributions of services but YHWH IS ONE (Yahshua). And there are distributions of powers but ELOAH IS ONE" (the Father).

I Cor. 15:47 (HRV) says, "The first son of man (Adam) was dust that was from the earth. THE SECOND MAN (Yeshua) WAS YHWH FROM HEAVEN."

I Cor. 8:6 (HRV) says, "But to us ourselves, [there] is ONE ELOAH, THE FATHER, from whom [are] all [things] and by whom we are, and ONE YHWH, YESHUA THE MESSIAH; by his hand [are] all [things] and by his hand we are also."

James, brother of Yahshua/Jesus understood who Yahshua really was when he wrote this. In James 3:8,9 (HRV), he said, "But the tongue, no man is able to subdue; this evil, when it is not restrained, if full of the poison of death. With it we bless YHWH (Yahshua) AND THE FATHER (Eloah), and with it we curse the sons of men who are made in the likeness of Eloah" (i.e., having three parts, as we have body, soul and spirit).

In James 5:7 (HRV), he said, "my brothers, be patient UNTIL THE COMING OF YHWH, as the husbandman who waits for the precious fruit of his ground and is patient for them UNTIL HE RECEIVES THE EARLY AND LATTER RAIN." This probably shows that at the Rapture, "the rain is over and gone," as in Song of Solomon 2:11. The latter rain is in Nisan, which started March 23. I hope the Rapture will be on Ascension Day, May 17,2004.

In I Peter 3:15 (HRV), Peter said, "sanctify YHWH, THE MESSIAH."

Col. 2:8,9 (HRV) says, "the Messiah, in Whom dwells ALL THE FULLNESS OF THE GODHEAD BODILY." Agape

My reply

Thanks for your kind words. I feel really blessed today. I think you know how much I wanted to find out if the Aleph-Tau (or Alef-Tav) sign appears any place besides after "God" in Gen. 1:1 and after "me" in Zech. 12:10.

You bet it does, in lots of places. My friend, Jackson Smith, went back to college, studied Hebrew, and has found lots of these signs in the Hebrew Old Testament. I can tell that God had a hand in this, because the timing is perfect. Right when I desperately want to know more about these, God has made it possible through the hard work of Jackson.

I am just beginning to soak up what he has written, but I can tell you that this Alef-Tav sign comes after the word God eight times in Genesis 1.

As you know, the first and last is Jesus Christ (YHWH Yahshua). In Rev. 22:13, Jesus said, "I am Alpha and Omega (the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet), the beginning and the end, THE FIRST AND THE LAST."

Isa. 44:6 says of YHWH Yahshua, "LORD (YHWH) the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD (YHWH) of hosts; I AM THE FIRST (YHWH King of Israel), AND I AM THE LAST (YHWH of hosts, the Redeemer, Yahshua, Jesus); AND BESIDE ME THERE IS NO GOD."

Genesis, chapter 1
Verse
1 "God (the first and the last) created the heaven (s) and the earth."
4 "God (the first and the last) saw the light, that it was good."
7 "God (the first and the last) made the firmament (expanse of space)".
16 "God (the first and the last) made two great lights".
21 "God (the first and the last) created great whales".
25 "God (the first and the last) made the beast of the earth".
27 "God (the first and the last) created Man in his own image".
31 "God (the first and the last) saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Agape

I have been truly blessed by your site, esp. your explaination on the Bride. Do you belong to any denomination? Do you have an articals of the faith? Shalom

I'm Baptist, but accept what I see the Bible saying over anything else. I was raised Methodist, but the family attended the First Baptist Church for a year after moving to Kingsport, TN. At the end of the year the family changed back to the Methodist Church, also on Church Circle at the end of Broad Street, because my brother was to be baptized. My parents wanted all the family to be in the same church.

I realized that the Baptist Church taught out of the open Bible. At the Methodist Church, I heard Bible-based stories. At the Baptist Church, I heard the Bible. I liked that best, so when I married Ed, already a member of that First Baptist Church, I changed to his church. I had also found out that baptizo meant immersed, so I wanted to be immersed like Jesus was.

My in-depth studies of the Bible started by 1960. I was lucky enough, I mean the Lord arranged for us to be living in La Mirada, CA, at the time. BIOLA college, now university, was within bike riding distance. I read about an 18" stack of books from their library's Seminary Collection every week for the next 7 years. Ever since, I have been studying as hard as I can go, using mainly Strong's Concordance, Thayer's and Gesinius' Lexicons, and as many Bible versions as I can get my hands on.

The Internet brought me e-Sword (free), a quicker way of using Strong's, and several online Bibles, including Brenton's translation of the Septuagint. I'm so thankful for the faster way to look things up. I'm still learning as fast as I can go. See Pro and Con 1110 and 1111 for the latest. Agape
