I THINK I NOW HAVE THE CORRECT DATES OF JESUS' CONCEPTION, BIRTH AND CRUCIFIXION

By Marilyn Agee

There are problems with Calendar Conversion programs. The Gregorian was not used in Bible days. It had 10 days taken out of it in 1582. Extrapolating the present Gregorian backwards regularly can be off in Jesus' day. The Julien Calendar had some problems with Leap Years in the time slot of Jesus' birth. Even extrapolating the present Hebrew Calendar backward might produce approximate dates, because up to 70 AD, the New Moon of Tishri 1 was set by sighting the new crescent Moon. The calendar of today is figured mathematically. Also, the modern calendar has rules that NYD can only occur on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. There may or may not have been such restrictions in Jesus' day. If so, Passover could only fall on Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday.

However, I still think the Crucifixion was on Thursday, April 6, 30 AD (Julian). It was ("the preparation of the passover", John 19:14), and the Feast of Passover was on Friday. That fits, so the Sanhedrin was probably already following this rule in 30 AD. This would rule out a Wednesday Crucifixion. There is more proof of April 6, 30 AD in Fred Espenak's phase of the Moon charts, because Passover was at the time of the Full Moon. I'll show you exactly what his charts said later.

Hebrew Calendar

...Two major forms of the calendar have been used: an observational form used prior to the destruction of the Second Temple in the year 70, and based on witnesses observing the phase of the moon, and a rule-based form first fully described by Maimonides in 1178, which was adopted over a transition period between 70 and 1178. The "modern" form is a rule-based lunisolar calendar...

In the Second Temple times, the beginning of each lunar month was decided by two eyewitnesses testifying to having seen the new crescent moon. Patriarch Gamaliel II (c. 100) compared these accounts to drawings of the lunar phases. According to tradition, these observations were compared against calculations made by the main Jewish court, the Sanhedrin....

The Julian Calendar does not insert a zero year, but it was subject to some changes in when to add a leap year. However, it seems to be fairly reliable, and it was used in Jesus' day.

Julian Calendar
http://scienceworld.wolfram.com/astronomy/JulianCalendar.html

The Julian calendar consisted of cycles of three 365-day years followed by a 366-day leap year. Around 9 BC, it was found that the priests in charge of computing the calendar had been adding leap years every three years instead of the four decreed by Caesar (Vardi 1991, p. 239). As a result of this error, no more leap years were added until 8 AD. Leap years were therefore 45 BC, 42 BC, 39 BC, 36 BC, 33 BC, 30 BC, 27 BC, 24 BC, 21 BC, 18 BC, 15 BC, 12 BC, 9 BC, 8 AD, 12 AD, and every fourth year thereafter

Some Gregorian Calendar programs can be off by one year, because they insert a zero year when there was no zero year. Below, a student constructing a calendar conversion program esplains his use of the zero year. He is following the convention used in Reingold and Dershowitz. I have run across their names in several calendar-program explanations. Maybe most of the Gregorian Calendar programs are off a little, because they follow Reingold and Dershwitz and add a zero year.

"About the Calendars"
http://web.meson.org/calendars/calinfo.html

...The calendar used here is an "proleptic" Gregorian calendar, which means it's the Gregorian calendar projected back (and forth) in time, even to dates when it didn't historically exist. So there is no such discontinuity in this Gregorian calendar: the dates simply march backwards through time uninterrupted, but at some point part company with historical reality. So there is a perfectly sensible 1 January 1, even though there was no year 1 in the Gregorian calendar (in fact, it falls on January 3 of the Julian calendar).

Similarly, since the Gregorian dates before 1582 (or whenever) are fictitious, we can invent fiction any way we like. So not only are there Gregorian dates that never happened, but this includes the year-numbering. There never was a year 0, but I'm making this up anyway, so by fiat the year that precedes 1 on the Gregorian calendar is designated Year 0. And before that came Year -1. I'm following the convention used in Reingold & Dershowitz of designating Gregorian years with positive and negative numbers and zero....

The Julian calendar is very similar to the Gregorian calendar (which it predates), differing only in the leap-year structure. As with the Gregorian calendar, the one used here is projected forward and backward in time without regard for history. However, since Julian year numbers have been used (and are used) in discussing history before the year 1 C.E., the usual conventions for that are followed. Namely, there is no Year 0; the year before 1 C.E. is 1 B.C.E. and so on. Thus, if you ask for a date in Year 0, it's the same as if you asked for Year 1 B.C.E. (i.e., 0 is a synonym for -1)....

Although in the Jewish calendar it makes no sense to talk about negative years (since the year number is considered to be the number of years since the world was created. Hence, the year is given as "A.M.", or anno mundi, year of the world), I adopt the same practice as above in case you do: years go from -1 to 0 to 1 and so on....

...While one can't properly speak of "Gregorian dates" prior to the adoption of the calendar in 1582, the calendar can be extrapolated to prior dates. In doing so, this implementation uses the convention that the year prior to year 1 is year 0. This differs from the Julian calendar in which there is no year 0...

Julian Day
Astronomers, unlike historians, frequently need to do arithmetic with dates. For example: a double star goes into eclipse every 1583.6 days and its last mid-eclipse was measured to be on October 17, 2003 at 21:17 UTC. When is the next? Well, you could get out your calendar and count days, but it's far easier to convert all the quantities in question to Julian day numbers and simply add or subtract. Julian days simply enumerate the days and fraction which have elapsed since the start of the Julian era, which is defined as beginning at noon on Monday, 1st January of year 4713 B.C.E....

Julian Calendar
The Julian calendar was proclaimed by Julius Csar in 46 B.C. and underwent several modifications before reaching its final form in 8 C.E. The Julian calendar differs from the Gregorian only in the determination of leap years, lacking the correction for years divisible by 100 and 400 in the Gregorian calendar. In the Julian calendar, any positive year is a leap year if divisible by 4. (Negative years are leap years if the absolute value divided by 4 yields a remainder of 1.) Days are considered to begin at midnight. In the Julian calendar the average year has a length of 365.25 days. compared to the actual solar tropical year of 365.24219878 days. The calendar thus accumulates one day of error with respect to the solar year every 128 years. Being a purely solar calendar, no attempt is made to synchronise the start of months to the phases of the Moon.

Lord, please help me to figure out the correct dates for Jesus' conception, birth and crucifixion. In Jesus' name, Amen.
---
The following dates are from the Calendar Converter at:
www.fourmilab.ch/documents/calendar. They are approximate.

Since the 7th day of the week has been kept from Adam's creation, the day of the week is more reliable than the dates. When subtracting 10 days from the Gregorian Calendar, the days of the week were kept intact. Therefore, I will adjust to fit any known days of the week. Since the Hebrew feast dates listed in the Bible are correct, I will adjust so they fall on the correct Hebrew date. Adjustments will be marked.

....HEBREW................JULIAN.................GREGORIAN........MY ADJUSTMENT

Kislev 24,3756 = December 5, BC 6, Sunday = December 3, 5 BC (6 BC adjusted) Conception
Tishri 1, 3757 = September 2, BC 5, Saturday = August 31, 4 BC (5 BC adjusted) Birth? Tishri 1, 3758 = September 22, BC 4, Saturday = September 20, 3 BC (4 BC adjusted)
Tishri 1, 3759 = September 10, BC 3, Tuesday = September 8, 2 BC (3 BC adjusted)
Tishri 1, 3760 = August 30, BC 2, Saturday = August 28, 1 BC (2 BC adjusted)
Tishri 1, 3761 = September 18, BC 1, Saturday = September 16, 0 (1 BC adjusted)
Tishri 1, 3762 = September 8, AD 1, Thursday = September 6, 1 AD (1 AD adjusted)
Tishri 1, 3763 = September 26,AD 2, Tuesday = September 24, 2 AD (2 AD adjusted)

Nisan 13, 3790 = April 4, AD 30, Tuesday = April 2, 30 AD (wrong day of week for Crucifixion)

Adjusted to Thursday for the Crucifixion
Nisan 13, 3790 = April 6, 30 AD, Thursday, Crucifixion, Preparation of the Passover

These would follow in order:
Nisan 14, 3790 = April 7, 30 AD, Friday, Passover
Nisan 15, 3790 = April 8, 30 AD, Saturday, Unleavened Bread
Nisan 16, 3790 = April 9, 30 AD, Sunday, Firstfruits, Resurrection

By the Hebrew calendar of today, Tishri 1, the Feast of Trumpets, can only fall on Monday, Tuesdays, Thursday, or Saturday. Passover can only fall on Monday, Tuesday, Friday or Saturday. Since this calendar is extrapolated backward in the computer programs, the day of the week could be off, but the days of Passion Week agree with Scripture.

Somewhere in my calendar searches, I ran across the information that when the day of the week was known, we should adjust the calendar dates to fit that day.

There are some other ways to check these dates. Tishri 1 is when the new crescent Moon is sighted. The Passover began at 6 PM on April 6, 30 AD, and the Full Moon is at Passover.

Friday, Mar. 24, visible crescent Moon
Saturday, Mar. 25, Nisan 1
Friday, Apr. 7, Nisan 14, Passover

That would also put the Crucifixion on Thursday, Nisan 13, the preparation of the Passover.

Julian day Number and Civil Date Calculator
http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEhelp/julian.txt

Jesus' Conception on Sunday, Dec. 5, 6 BC, Julian (Julian Day 1719570)
Plus 272 days (9.066 30-day months)
Equals Jesus' birth on Saturday, Sept 2, 5 BC, Julian (Julian Day 1719842)

HOWEVER, IT PAYS TO DOUBLE CHECK, ONE MORE ADJUSTMENT SEEMS NECESSARY TO FIX THE DATE OF THE BIRTH OF CHRIST.

Rev 12:1,5 says, "there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman (VIRGO) CLOTHED WITH THE SUN, AND THE MOON UNDER HER FEET, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, TRAVAILING IN BIRTH, and pained to be delivered....And SHE BROUGHT FORTH A MAN CHILD (JESUS), who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne" (after his resurrection).

I went to YourSky (http://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/uncgi/Yoursky). This chart is for Monday September 4, BC 5 (Julian). Virgo is clothed with the Sun, and the New Crescent Moon is beneath her feet. Jesus was probably born the night of September 4 after the sign was seen in the sky as the Sun set. After sunset the Hebrew date would have been Tishri 1, 3757.

I went back to Fred Espanek's charts. The New Moon (the conjunction, the dark of the Moon) was on September 1, BC 5, but the sign of Virgo being clothed with the Sun and the Moon at her feet was three days later, on September 4, BC 5. Surely that is Jesus' birthday.

MY CONCLUSIONS IN LIGHT OF THIS INFORMATION

Jesus' Conception: Kislev 24, 3756 (Hebrew) = Sunday, Dec 5, 6 BC (Julian)

Jesus' Birth: Tishri 1, 3757 = Monday, Sept 4, 5 BC (Julian).

Jesus' Crucifixion: Nisan 13, 3790 = Thursday, Apr 6, 30 AD (Julian), the preparation of the Passover.

Passover: Friday, Nisan 14, (Lev. 23:5), April 7, 30 AD.

The Feast of Unleavened Bread: Saturday, Nisan 15 (Lev. 23:6) April 8, 30 AD.

Jesus' Resurrection: Feast of Firstfruits, Sunday, Nisan 16 (Lev.23:10,11) Apr. 9, 30 AD.

Although not a popular view with most the Doves, there are a few of us who believe that the rapture occurs when the Day of the Lord begins - some future Feast of Trumpets. I personally believe this is right after the sixth seal and the sixth trumpet in The Revelation. I believe the church is here during the Trumpets which is the wrath of Satan, but God uses it as a warning to unbelievers, and as a testing of believers. Then to me, the rapture occurs, the Day of the Lord begins and God pours out his wrath rapidly in the bowl judgements. I also think the marriage takes place in the seven days (Days of Awe) between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur, and then we return with Jesus on Yom Kippur. To me this fits scripture without stretching or taking it out of context a lot more than any other supposition (Pretrib, mid-trib, etc) out there - and you don't have to make a seven day wedding feast symbolize seven years of Tribulation - it's seven days! Blessings to all. Weldon

My reply

> > there are a few of us who believe that the rapture occurs when the Day of the Lord begins - some future Feast of Trumpets.

That is when I think the second Rapture will take place. It is the Pre-Wrath Rapture of the Tribulation saints. It takes place after the beginning of the Day of God's Wrath in Rev. 6:17 and before Rev. 8:1, when the seventh seal is broken.

Rev 6:15-17 says, "the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne (Christ, on the Day of the Lord), and from THE WRATH OF THE LAMB: FOR THE GREAT DAY OF HIS WRATH (CHRIST'S, NOT SATAN'S) IS COME; and who shall be able to stand?"

Amos 5: 18 says, "WOE TO YOU WHO LONG FOR THE DAY OF THE LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? THAT DAY WILL BE DARKNESS, NOT LIGHT."

Of those caught up in the second Rapture, only the 144,000 Israelites will be added to the Bride group that was caught up in the Pre-Trib Rapture.

Rev 14:1-5 says, "I looked, and, lo, a Lamb (Christ) stood on the mount Sion (the Heavenly New Jerusalem), and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and NO MAN COULD LEARN THAT SONG BUT THE HUNDRED AND FORTY AND FOUR THOUSAND, WHICH WERE REDEEMED FROM THE EARTH. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins (having become wise). These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God."

> > I personally believe this is right after the sixth seal and the sixth trumpet in The Revelation.

I think it is right after the sixth seal and before the 7th SEAL is broken in Rev. 8:1. Until that 7th seal is broken, no trumpet judgments will hit Earth.

The seals, trumpets, and vials are arranged like circle clocks. Draw a large circle. Put in it 6 touching circles around a 7th circle in the middle. These represent the 7 seals. In the 7th circle is another circle clock. These circles represent the 7 trumpets that come out of the 7th seal. In the middle of the 7th seal, draw 7 more circles. These are the vials. They come out of the 7th trumpet, none overlapping the other trumpets or the seals.

> > I believe the church is here during the Trumpets which is the wrath of Satan

The seven trumpets are the Lord's wrath and 1Th 5:9 says, "GOD HATH NOT APPOINTED US TO WRATH, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ."

Rev. 6:16,17 says men will say to the rocks "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne (Christ, when the Sign of the Son of Man [Mt. 24:30] is seen on the Day of the Lord), and from THE WRATH OF THE LAMB: FOR THE GREAT DAY OF HIS (CHRIST'S) WRATH IS COME."

Eze 38:18-20 tells us about God's/Christ's wrath. It says, "it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that MY FURY shall come up in my face. For in my jealousy and in the fire of MY WRATH have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence (paniym, face, i.e., in the Sign of the Son of Man), and the mountains (i.e., asteroids) shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground."

This will take place when the asteroid of Rev. 8:8 impacts the Mediterranean Sea and the asteroid of Rev. 8:10 wipes out Babylon. When the seven trumpets are given to the seven angels, but before they begin to sound, another angel symbolically puts fire of the altar in a spherical incense burner and casts it upon the Earth. Then the 7 angels start to blow their 7 trumpets.

The seven trumpet judgments describe what happens when the asteroids impact Earth. After some time has gone by, the seven vials show what the ultimate result of the wrath of the Lamb will be. For instance, in Rev. 8:9, "the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed." In Rev. 16:3, "every living soul died in the sea."

> > to me, the rapture occurs, the Day of the Lord begins and God pours out his wrath rapidly in the bowl judgements.

To me, the Pre-Trib Rapture takes place, then the7-year Tribulation begins and the Beast begins to rule. He rules 3.5 years. Mid-Trib, the False Prophet takes the reins of leadership from the Beast as the Great Tribulation begins. That time is to be shortened when the great and terrible Day of the Lord begins. The Pre-Wrath Rapture takes place, then the seven trumpet judgments are cast on Earth. After some time has gone by, the vials sum up the destruction that hit on the Day of Destruction, the great and terrible Day of the Lord.

Job 21:29, 30 says, "do ye not know...the wicked is reserved to the DAY OF DESTRUCTION? they shall be brought forth to THE DAY OF WRATH."

Isa 13:6 says, "Howl ye; for the DAY OF THE LORD is at hand; it shall come as a DESTRUCTION FROM THE ALMIGHTY" (Christ, Rev. 1:8).

Joel 1:15 says, "Alas for the day! for the DAY OF THE LORD is at hand, and as a DESTRUCTION FROM THE ALMIGHTY (Christ) shall it come."

Joel 2:1,2 says, "Blow ye the TRUMPET in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the DAY OF THE LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; A DAY OF DARKNESS and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of THICK DARKNESS, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong (Gog's army); there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations."

> > I also think the marriage takes place in the seven days (Days of Awe) between Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur

I think the Marriage of the Lamb takes place on one day, the Feast of Trumpets at the end of the shortened Great Tribulation. As soon as the Bride group that were caught up to Heaven in the Pre-Trib Rapture are gathered to the General Assembly in Heaven (Heb. 12:23), and the 144,000 Israelites caught up from Earth in the Pre-Wrath Rapture, are gathered to the General Assembly in Heaven, The Coronation of Christ will take place. Then the Marriage of the Lamb will take place. After that, Christ will be seated as Judge at the Judgment Seat of Christ while both Heaven and Earth are quiet out of respect (Rev. 8:1; Hab. 2:20). The saints in Heaven will receive their rewards while the unbelievers on Earth receive the wrath of God.

Rev. 11:15-19 says, "And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he (Christ) shall REIGN for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art (at the Judgment Seat of Christ), and wast (at the First Advent), and art to come (7 months later at the Second Advent on Nisan 1, the first day of the Regnal and Sacred Year); because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. And the nations were angry, and THY WRATH IS COME, and the time of the dead, that they should be JUDGED (at the JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST), and that thou shouldest give REWARD unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; AND shouldest DESTROY them which destroy the earth. And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail."

The two stone tablets with the 10 commandments on them are dumped out of the Ark onto the Earth. They represent the asteroids of Rev. 8:8,10. The worldwide earthquake leaves all the cities in shambles. Every wall will fall.

Rev. 16:19 says, "the great city (Jerusalem) was divided into three parts, and THE CITIES OF THE NATIONS FELL: AND GREAT BABYLON came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of HIS WRATH."

Rev. 18:21 says, "And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone (i.e., the asteroid of Rev. 8:10), and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city BABYLON be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all."

In Zech. 5:3,4, The binary asteroid, "THE CURSE THAT GOETH FORTH (orbits) OVER THE FACE OF THE WHOLE EARTH...every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it (one of the stone tablets); and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it (the other stone tablet). I will bring it (the binary asteroid that is twice as long as wide) forth, saith the LORD of hosts (Christ, Isa. 44:6), and it shall enter into the house of the thief (the False Prophet, the second Son of Perdition), and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name (the Beast, the Tribulation Pope, who claims infallibility): and it shall remain in the midst of his house (in Babylon), and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof."

Zech 5:10,11 says, "Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah (largest wheat measure, i.e., the world church)? And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar (Babylon, Gen. 11:2; Dan. 1:2): and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base" (the foundation of the Tower of Babel).

> > and then we return with Jesus on Yom Kippur

I think the Second Advent will be 7 months later, on the first day of the Regnal and Sacred Year.

Zeph. 2:1-5 says, "Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired (Israel, in 1948); Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD'S anger come upon you (on Tishri 1, the Feast of Trumpets). Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be HID (sa^thar, BE ABSENT, i.e., be raptured) IN THE DAY OF THE LORD'S ANGER. For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the NOON day, and Ekron shall be rooted up. Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast".

The asteroids of Rev. 8:8,10 will impact Earth at NOON on the great and terrrible Day of the Lord. Therefore, the Pre-Wrath Rapture will take place between 6 PM, when that date begins, and the following noon.

At that time, the bottomless pit will be opened, freeing the demons to torment men five months (Rev. 9). I doubt that we will return with Christ until after those five months are up. Eze. 39:12,13 shows that it will actually be 7 months later, i.e., Nisan 1 in a Hebrew Leap Year.

Eze. 39:12,13 says, "And SEVEN MONTHS shall the house of Israel be burying of them (those of Gog's army that were killed when the asteroid hit the Mediterranean Sea on Tishri 1, the Feast of Trumpets), that they may cleanse the land. Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified (i.e., at the Second Advent 7 months later), saith the Lord GOD."

I think the darkness of Tishri 1 will still make the Day of Atonement a dark day.

Of the Second Advent, Zec 14:4-9 says, "his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and THE LORD MY GOD SHALL COME, AND ALL THE SAINTS WITH THEE. And it shall come to pass IN THAT DAY, THAT THE LIGHT SHALL NOT BE CLEAR, NOR DARK (therefore it is not the Day of the Lord, the Day of Darkness): But it shall be one day (Nisan 1) which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light. And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. And the LORD (Christ) shall be king over all the earth: in that day (IN THE SPRING) shall there be one LORD, and his name one." Agape
