Labor Day (September 3, 2007) plus the human 280-day gestation period equals Pentecost, Sivan 6, 5768 (June 9, 2008). Will that be the day the Body of Christ is born into a new world?

By Marilyn Agee

Someone nice sent me a book, "Things to Come, A Study in Biblical Eschatology," by Dwight Pentecost. Written like a thesis, it is a good assessment of different viewpoints. Checking out the Contents, "THE PARTIAL RAPTURE POSITION" caught my eye. His statement: "It is one of the questions on which Bible students are most in disagreement at the present time" refers to 1964, when I was already deep in Bible study. In those days, I was immersed in books, reading approximately an 18" stack of books from the Seminary Collection at BIOLA library every week for 7 years.

I understand Pentecost's position, and respectfully disagree with it, as did "R. Govett, G. H. Lang, D. M. Panton, G. H. Pember, J. A. Seiss, and Austin Sparks".

Pentecost said, "The partial rapturist position is based on a misunderstanding of the value of the death of Christ as it frees the sinner from condemnation and renders him acceptable to God." Pentecost believes that there is one Rapture, and that every believer will be taken to Heaven before the Tribulation. He also thinks that the Tribulation is just for Israel, not for the Church.

Yet, in Jesus' message to the CHURCH in Thyatira, Rev 2:22 says, "Behold, I will cast her (Jezebel) into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her (i.e., join the harlot church group) into GREAT TRIBULATION (the last half of the 7-year Tribulation), EXCEPT THEY REPENT of their deeds." Rev. 17 shows that the harlot church and those that join up with her in the world church will end up in the Great Tribulation, and Rev 7:14 says, "These are they which came out of GREAT TRIBULATION, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." Their soiled robes caused these saints to be in the GREAT TRIBULATION in the first place.

Rev. 17:1 says, "Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters (nations, v. 15). Rev. 18:4 says, "COME OUT of her (i.e., out of the harlot church group, the world church), my people (believers), that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." This is the time of the "last trump" Rapture. The Day of God's Wrath has begun, but the 2nd Rapture takes place just before the wrath of God wipes out Babylon.

Jesus spoke to the Laodicean church in no uncertain terms. In Rev. 3:15-19, Jesus said, "I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot...So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I WILL SPUE THEE OUT OF MY MOUTH. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold (symbol of deity, probably refers to the indwelling Holy Spirit) tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; AND WHITE RAIMENT, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent."

It looks like those escaping in the Pre-Trib Rapture will be those that wash their robes before that Rapture takes place. Remember that the Israelites at Mt. Sinai were told to "WASH THEIR CLOTHES, AND BE READY" (Ex. 19:10,11). That was a type of the first-trump Rapture. When that first trumpet of the Bible sounded, the Lord came down on Pentecost, Sivan 6.

For those that do not wash their robes before the Pentecost Rapture, there is the Pre-Wrath Rapture on the Feast of Trumpets to look forward to. It happens at the "last trump" (I Cor. 15:51-53).

How do we wash our robes? 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." When we accept Christ, our "old sins" are wiped off the slate (II Peter 1:9). Any sins afterward need to be confessed to be brought under the blood of Christ.

In Rev. 3:10, when addressing the Philadelphian church, Jesus said, "Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from (ek, out of) the hour of temptation (peirasmos, putting to proof), WHICH SHALL COME UPON ALL THE WORLD (including members of the church in Thyatira that have not repented), to try them that dwell upon the earth." Jesus only said this to the one group for whom he had no words of condemnation, the Philadelphian church. That is significant. All other church groups except the persecuted church in Smyrna are told to repent.

To the church of Ephesus, Jesus said, "Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and REPENT, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent" (Rev. 2:5). To the church in Pergamos, Jesus said, "Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth" (Rev 2:16). In the Preview of the Rapture in chapter 1, a sharp twoedged sword was coming out of Jesus' mouth (Rev. 1:16). The meaning is clear. At the Pre-Trib Rapture, the church member that has not repented will be cut off with the twoedged sword coming out of His mouth. In Rev 3:19, he told the church of Laodicea, "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent."

In Rev 3:3-6, Jesus told the church in Sardis, "Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief (he comes as a thief at the last trump), and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. THOU HAST A FEW NAMES EVEN IN SARDIS WHICH HAVE NOT DEFILED THEIR GARMENTS; AND THEY SHALL WALK WITH ME IN WHITE: FOR THEY ARE WORTHY. HE THAT OVERCOMETH, THE SAME SHALL BE CLOTHED IN WHITE RAIMENT; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches."

The WORTHY shall be clothed in white raiment. No wonder Luke 21:36 says, " Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted WORTHY to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. "

I believe that there are two Raptures, the Pre-Trib Rapture of I Thess. 4:13-18 and the Pre-Wrath Rapture of I Cor. 15:51-53 and Rev. 7:9, 14. I expect every believer to be taken to Heaven either before the Tribulation or before the wrath of God hits Earth at the end of the shortened Tribulation. 1 Thess 1:10 says "to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, WHICH DELIVERED US FROM THE WRATH TO COME. Rev. 11:18 says, "And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged (at the Judgment Seat of Christ in Heaven), and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth."

I Thess. 4:13-17 tells us about the first "trump of God." It says, "I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep (the dead in Christ), that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (Old English for preceed) them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel (Michael), and with THE TRUMP OF GOD: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

The resurrection at the first Rapture includes both Old and New Testament saints. Concerning the OT saints, Heb 11:38-40 says, "they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect."

Paul is part of the Pre-Trib Rapture, but he does not actually become immortal at that time. No one is said to actually become immortal at the first trump. Immortality is promised to those participating in the first Rapture, but the change actually takes place at the last trump.

There is another Rapture. It is on the Day of God's Wrath. Rev 6:17 says, "For the great day of his wrath is come", then the Tribulation saints are seen in Heaven in Rev. 7:9,14.

Among these are the 144,000 Israelites. Daniel 12:1,2 tells us when they get to Heaven. It says, "And at that time (i.e., when the False Prophet comes to his end, Dan. 11:45) shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people (the 144,000): and there shall be A TIME OF TROUBLE (time of Jacob's trouble), SUCH AS NEVER WAS SINCE THERE WAS A NATION EVEN TO THAT SAME TIME: AND AT THAT TIME (THE DAY OF GOD'S WRATH) THY PEOPLE (i.e., the 144,000 ISRAELITES) SHALL BE DELIVERED, EVERY ONE THAT SHALL BE FOUND WRITTEN IN THE BOOK. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."

Jer. 30:7 says, "Alas! for that day (one single day) is great, so that NONE IS LIKE IT: it is even THE TIME OF JACOB'S TROUBLE; but he shall be saved out of it." The time of Jacob's trouble is not the whole Tribulation, or even the last 3.5 years. It is one single day, the Day of God's Wrath.

Rev 7:9-15 tells us more about the Tribulation saints. It says, "After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, OF ALL NATIONS (NOT JUST ISRAEL), and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, THESE ARE THEY WHICH CAME OUT OF GREAT TRIBULATION, AND HAVE WASHED THEIR ROBES, AND MADE THEM WHITE IN THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them."

1 Cor 15:51-53 tells us more about the day of the second Rapture, the "last trump." It says, "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We (including Paul) shall not all sleep, but WE SHALL ALL BE CHANGED (allasso, made different), IN A MOMENT, IN THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE, AT THE LAST (eschatos, final) TRUMP: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and WE SHALL BE CHANGED (made different, i.e., made immortal). For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality."

Of course, if there is a last trump, there has to be a first trump. There are two Raptures, and both take place before the 7 trumpets of judgment are given to the 7 angels in Rev. 8. The FIRST TRUMP OF GOD is in Rev. 4:1. The LAST TRUMP OF GOD is in Rev. 7:9,14.

After the first group of saints arrive in Heaven in Rev. 4, Christ is given the Title Deed of the Earth in Rev. 5:6,7. Afterward, all these saints sing the NEW SONG in Rev. 5:9.

After the second group of saints arrive in Heaven in Rev. 7, we read about them again in Rev. 14:2-5. Of this second group, only the 144,000 Israelites can sing the NEW SONG. It says, "I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a GREAT THUNDER: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a NEW SONG before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and NO MAN COULD LEARN THAT SONG BUT THE HUNDRED AND FORTY AND FOUR THOUSAND, WHICH WERE REDEEMED FROM THE EARTH. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God."

Mt 24:30,31 tells us what happens in HEAVEN when the LAST TRUMP sounds. It says, " And then shall appear THE SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a GREAT SOUND OF A TRUMPET, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of HEAVEN to the other." Here none are gathered from the Earth. Those gathered in Heaven were taken there when the FIRST TRUMP sounded at the Pre-Trib Rapture before the Tribulation began.

At the time of the LAST TRUMP, those already in Heaven are gathered to the festal assembly on the Feast of Trumpets. Heb. 12 22-24 says, "But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general (or festal) assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men MADE PERFECT (CHANGED), And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant".

Mark 13:26,27 shows us that the Rapture of the Tribulation saints takes place at the same time that those in heaven are gathered to the festal assembly. It says, "And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory (this is the Sign of the Son of Man seen in the sky). And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the EARTH to the uttermost part of HEAVEN." These gathered from the Earth are the Tribulation saints caught up in the Pre-Wrath Rapture on the Day of God's Wrath (Rev. 6:17).

There are TWO DAYS OF THE SON OF GOD, i.e., TWO RAPTURES. The first is like the days of Noah--rain fell. The second is like the days of Lot--fire fell. Marriage is mentioned only when talking about the days of Noah.

Luke 17:22-37 says, "The days will come, when ye shall desire to see ONE OF THE DAYS OF THE SON OF MAN, and ye shall not see it (i.e., if they are not caught up in the Pre-Trib Rapture, they will find themselves in the Tribulation). And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them. For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day (i.e., the Sign of the Son of Man will be seen in the sky)....And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage (i.e., this group is the Bride of Christ), until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded (no marriage is listed); But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed (i.e., when the Sign of the Son of Man is seen in the sky). In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body (the Body of Christ) is (it's in Heaven), thither will the EAGLES (high flying Tribulation saints) be gathered together."

Ex. 19:4 is the type of the Rapture just before destruction hits. It says, "Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I BARE YOU ON EAGLES' WINGS, AND BROUGHT YOU UNTO MYSELF."

According to Jewish tradition, the two horns of the ram that Abraham sacrificed instead of Isaac are two shofars to be blown at two different times, the FIRST TRUMP (left horn) AT PENTECOST AND THE LAST TRUMP (right horn) AT THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS. These two trumps foretell two Raptures, two times that Christ gathers up his saints. At the first Rapture, Christ gathers the wise virgins of Mt. 25. At the second Rapture, he gathers the foolish virgins.

Luke 21:36 says, "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man." God has no condemnation for the Philadelphian church saints. They are worthy. They are also the only ones before whom the open door is set.

Rev. 3:8-11 says, "behold, I have set before thee an OPEN DOOR, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name...Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown."

In contrast, the lukewarm Laodiceans are told to buy of the Lord "white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear." They also were told to "anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see" (Rev. 3:18). After they are left behind at the first trump, they will understand what they have to do, use I John 1:9 and confess their sins committed after they accepted Christ to God so all their sins will be brought under the blood of Christ. Then they will "have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the lamb."

Jesus told Peter "IF I WASH THEE NOT, THOU HAST NO PART WITH ME." John 13:4-10 says of Jesus, "He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet...Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, IF I WASH THEE NOT, THOU HAST NO PART WITH ME. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, He that is washed (i.e., has accepted Christ and had all his "old sins" forgiven) needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit".

2 Peter 1:4-11 sounds like it is talking to the foolish virgins that get left behind at the first Rapture. It says, "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature (i.e., the oil of the Holy Spirit the foolish virgins need more of), having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But HE THAT LACKETH THESE THINGS IS BLIND (like the Laodiceans), AND CANNOT SEE AFAR OFF (Heaven), and hath forgotten that he was purged from his OLD SINS (when he accepted Christ). Wherefore the rather, brethren (believers), give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."

Dwight Pentecost denied that Mt. 24:41-42 and Mt. 25 apply to the Church. He said, "Matthew 24:41-42, "Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken and the other left. Watch therefore for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. Again, this passage is in that discourse in which the Lord outlines His program FOR ISRAEL, WHO IS ALREADY IN THE TRIBULATION PERIOD. THE ONE TAKEN IS TAKEN TO JUDGMENT AND THE ONE LEFT IS LEFT FOR THE MILLENNIAL BLESSING. SUCH IS NOT THE PROSPECT FOR THE CHURCH."

1 Cor 12:13 says, "BY ONE SPIRIT ARE WE ALL BAPTIZED INTO ONE BODY, WHETHER WE BE JEWS OR GENTILES, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit." Rom 12:5 says, "So we, being many, are ONE BODY IN CHRIST, and every one members one of another." 1 Cor 10:17 says, "For we being many are one bread, and ONE BODY: for we are all partakers of that one bread." Eph 2:16 says, "And THAT HE MIGHT RECONCILE BOTH UNTO GOD IN ONE BODY BY THE CROSS, HAVING SLAIN THE ENMITY THEREBY". Eph 4:4 says, "There is ONE BODY, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling". 1 Cor 12:12 says, "For as THE BODY IS ONE, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are ONE BODY: so also is Christ."

Jesus wrapped up his comments about the Tribulation in Mt. 24:31. Then, he gave the fig tree parable. From Mt. 24:32 through 25:30, he addressed the Body of Christ.

Mt 25:1-13 is talking to believers at the time of the Pre-Trib Rapture. It says, "Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh."

In Luke 12:46, Jesus said, "The lord of that servant (a believer) will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder (lit., cut him off), and will APPOINT HIM (THE BELIEVER) HIS PORTION WITH THE UNBELIEVERS." That portion with the unbelievers is the shortened Tribulation.

Luke 13:28 says, "THERE SHALL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD, AND YOU YOURSELVES THRUST OUT." Mt 8:12 says, "But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: THERE SHALL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH." Mt 22:13 says, "Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; THERE SHALL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH." Mt 25:30 says, "And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: THERE SHALL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH."

Dwight Pentecost said, "The partial rapturist must deny the New Testament teaching on the unity of the body of Christ. According to I Corinthians 12:12-13, all believers are united to the body of which Christ is the Head (Eph. 5:30)....If the rapture includes only a portion of those redeemed, then the body, of which Christ is the head, will be a dismembered and disfigured body when it is taken to Him....The bride, in relation to whom He is the Bridegroom will be disfigured. The new creation, of which He is the Head, will be incomplete. Such is impossible to imagine."

The Head is in Heaven now, and the rest of the living body is on Earth. I see the whole birth of the Body of Christ as when a baby is born into a new world, first the head, then the torso and legs, then one foot (i.e., the Pre-Trib Rapture), then the other foot (i.e., the Pre-Wrath Rapture). Only then will the entire Body of Christ be in Heaven.

Pentecost said, "The partial rapturist must dany the completeness of the resurrection of the believers at the translation...But since Paul teaches that 'we shall all be changed,' and that all those that 'sleep in Jesus' will God bring (1 Cor. 15:51,52; I Thess. 4:14), it is impossible to admit a partial resurrection."

I Cor. 15:51-53 applies to the second Rapture, the "last trump". I Thess. 4:13-18 applies to the first trump of God. Only after the second Rapture will the whole group be changed, made immortal, at the same time.

Rev 3:3 says, "Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and REPENT. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." Jesus comes as a thief at the second Rapture, which is on the Day of the Lord.

I Thess. 5:3,4 says, "the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief."

In point 4, Pentecost said, "The partial rapturist confuses the Scriptural teaching on rewards... Nowhere in its teaching about rewards is the rapture included as the reward for watching. Such a teaching would make rewards a legal obligation on the part of God, rather than a gracious gift."

Rev 3:3 says, "Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee."

I take it that those that repent will be caught up in the first Rapture. Those that do not repent risk being left behind like the foolish virgins. They will be caught up in the Second Rapture when Jesus comes as a thief.

In point 5, Pentecost said, "The partial rapturist confuses the distinction between law and grace. If his view is correct, the believer's position before God, eternally, would depend on his works, for what he did and what attitudes he developed would then be the basis of his acceptance. It scarcely needs be said that acceptance by God will be solely on the basis of the individual's position in Christ, not his own preparation of himself for the translation."

We are saved by grace, but we can work for rewards. 1 Cor 3:11-15 says, "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire."

The Tribulation saints seem to be the ones that will be saved so as by fire. In Rev. 6:17, the Day of God's Wrath has come. The Tribulation saints are in Heaven in Rev. 7:9,14, so the "last trump" has already sounded. Then, in Rev. 8, the 7 trumpets of judgment are given to the 7 angels.

In 1 Cor 9:24-27, Paul said, "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth THE PRIZE? SO RUN, THAT YE MAY OBTAIN. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now THEY DO IT TO OBTAIN A CORRUPTIBLE CROWN; BUT WE AN INCORRUPTIBLE. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a CASTAWAY."
