A cache of 1,000-year-old coins found near the Sea of Galilee bear the likeness of Jesus and have Greek inscriptions praising him, archaeologists announced yesterday. The coins were unearthed in October in archaeological excavations at the site of ancient Tiberias in northern Israel but only during a cleaning of the find last month did archaeologists discover the image of Jesus on 58 of the 82 coins. Some coins also bore Greek inscriptions such as "Jesus the Messiah, the King of Kings," and "Jesus, the Messiah, the Victor."

"This is the largest collection of these types of coins. They are very rare," said archaeologist Yizhar Hirschfeld, who co-directed the excavations. Archaeologists also found many types of bronze utensils dating from the 10th and 11th centuries, when the Islamic Fatimid ruled the region. Hirschfeld said the coins were probably brought from Constantinople to Tiberias by Christian pilgrims. "We know Tiberias was a mixed city, where Jews, Moslems and Christians all lived together. Tiberias was a pilgrimage site," Hirschfeld said.

Archaeologists found the coins and other objects in three large clay pots hidden under the floor of a structure. The Crusaders destroyed ancient Tiberias at the end of the 11th century but the invaders did not discover the coin hoard....

Prime Minister Ehud Barak said Friday that he hoped to combine implementation of the U.S.-brokered Wye land-for-security deal between Israel and the Palestinians with a future final status treaty. "The Wye agreement will be implemented. The issue that (Palestinian President Yasser) Arafat and I will discuss is whether we can together...find a way to combine the implementation of the Wye agreement with a final status agreement," Barak told Israel Channel One television....

Rare coins bearing the likeness of Jesus that were discovered near the Sea of Galilee can now be seen in a special exhibit that has just opened at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Institute of Archaeology. The coins on display are part of the largest collection of "Jesus coins" ever discovered at an archaeological site.

The coins, some with inscriptions in Greek such as "Jesus the Messiah, the King of Kings" and "Jesus, the Messiah, the Victor," were found last fall in archaeological excavations in Israel, directed by Prof. Yizhar Hirschfeld and Oren Gutfeld of the Hebrew University Institute of Archaeology, at the site of ancient Tiberias, just south of the present city on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Those excavations yielded the largest cache of objects from the Islamic period ever uncovered in Israel.

Among the some 1,000 bronze items that were found at the time were 82 coins. It was only later examination of those coins which revealed the magnitude of the discovery. The examination showed that 58 of them bore the likeness of Jesus, some with inscriptions. The coins are of the type known scientifically as "anonymous folles," said Prof. Hirschfeld, meaning coins which contain neither the name or image of the ruler of the time -- a relatively rare phenomenon. The coins were minted in the Byzantine empire and were produced over a period from the second half of the 10th century to the second half of the 11th centuries, he said. An analysis of the coins was done by Gabriela Bijovsky, a doctoral student in archaeology.

Some of the coins and other metal objects from the Tiberias excavations can be seen in the new exhibit, entitled "House of the Bronzes," at the Hebrew University Institute of Archaeology. Many types of bronze utensils displaying exquisite craftsmanship are shown, including large candelabra, decorative bowls with writing in the ancient Kufic Arabic script, jugs, pots, bells and other vessels. The utensils date mostly from the 10-11th centuries C.E., the period of the Islamic Fatimid rule in the region.

The items were found in three large clay pots hidden under the floor of a structure. The identity of the owner of the structure is not known, although he could have been a dealer in metal objects who hid his merchandise in fear of invasion by the Crusaders at the end of the 11th century. As things happened, the Crusaders did invade and destroy ancient Tiberias, though fortunately they did not discover the cache that has now been uncovered. The city was at that time the capital of the Urdun district and had a mixed Jewish, Moslem and Christian population.

In view of the historical interest generated by the approaching millennium, the "House of Bronzes" exhibit, including the "Jesus coins," will remain open at the Hebrew University Institute of Archaeology into the year 2000, said the curator and designer of the exhibit, Gila Hurvitz. (Jerry Barach, July 7, 1999)

Archaeologists believe they have found the heart of the ancient city of Hebron, where Abraham, the Hebrew patriarch, lived 3,700 years ago.

On the site of an Israeli settlement, in territory claimed by both Arabs and Jews, excavations have uncovered a 9-foot-thick city wall and fortified tower that have been dated to the middle bronze period, circa 1700BC.

You'll probably scoff, but I think you need to at least consider this possibility.
First, a quick answer:
Let Searcy have his Tribulation. I aim to "escape" (Lu. 21:36).
Later, after visiting his site, I copied the following. My reply follows it.
Understanding The Abomination of Desolation: By: Jim Searcy

...For those still clinging to a pre-trib rapture denial and delusion, shake yourself. Look at John chapter 6. Four times you will find Yeshua telling us the resurrection is at the last day. You can't have a rapture without the resurrection, because the dead in Christ shall rise first, then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up... If the resurrection is at the last day, so is the rapture, and Paul reiterates it clearly in I Cor. 15:51-52. Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the LAST trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. How many first resurrections can there be? Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years....

Are you going to continue in your pre-trib delusion, denial and presumption? The L-rd is calling all. The time is very late. You must prepare for great tribulation. Do not be one of those who would not.

My reply

You know something, it sure is funny that the New Testament shows us how to live the Christian life, and yet it does not tell us to prepare for the Tribulation. Don't you think it would, if we needed to prepare for it? Instead, it tells us how to "ESCAPE" and be kept "FROM" the Tribulation. If we pay attention, and prepare for the Rapture instead of the Tribulation, we can escape before the Tribulation even begins.

Preparing for the Tribulation would get our eyes off of Christ (because we would not think he would show up right away) and on acquiring THINGS. That does not seem right. There would be no push to repent just yet. In trying to acquire Coleman lamps and Coleman fuel, we would be fooled into thinking we had plenty of time to acquire the oil of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 21:36 says, "WATCH ye therefore, and PRAY ALWAYS, that ye may be ACCOUNTED WORTHY to ESCAPE ALL THESE THINGS (the Tribulation) that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man." The word for escape is EKPHEUGO, "escape OUT OF or AWAY FROM." We get our word EXIT from the prefix, "EK." Strong's gives "vanish" as an alternate meaning for EKPHEUGO. From ESCAPE to VANISH, not the slightest hint of "survive through."

Rev. 3:10,11 says, "Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee FROM (ek, out of) the hour of temptation (peirasmos, trial), which shall (after the Rapture) come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly (at the Rapture): hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown." Crowns are given at the Pre-Trib Rapture.

The two Raptures are as the days of Noah and as the days of Lot. At the first Rapture, NO fire falls. At the second, fire WILL fall that same day. Lu. 17:29 says, "But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all." If no fire falls the first time, and fire does fall the second time, to me, there can't be JUST ONE RAPTURE, and that at the last day. There are two separate events. Since Noah and his sons were all married, we can expect that those going up in the first Rapture will be the Bride of Christ. This prize is worth running the race to win. None that made it out alive in the days of Lot were married.

When we read of the last day, we need to ask ourselves, the last day of what? the last day of the Millennium? Even Jim Searcy doesn't believe that. The last day of this age would make more sense. The last day of the first resurrection seems more likely, and instead of falling on the last day of this age, it falls on the first day of the Millennium (Rev. 6:17; 7:14).

Let's examine the scriptures Searcy referred to in reverse order.
Rev 20:6: "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the FIRST RESURRECTION: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be PRIESTS of God and of Christ, and shall REIGN with him a thousand years."

The group seen in Heaven in Rev. 7:14,15 "came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple." Therefore, the Tribulation saints will be PRIESTS.

Another group is seen in Heaven in Rev. 5:9, before the breaking of the first seal in Rev. 6. They are not the same as the Tribulation saints. The Tribulation saints are seen in Heaven between the breaking of the sixth and seventh seals. Those in Rev. 5:9,10 are unto "God KINGS AND PRIESTS." This group is not the same as the one in Rev. 7:14. These are not only PRIESTS, but also KINGS. They have earned crowns.

The group that appears in Heaven before the Tribulation begins at the first seal are KINGS and PRIESTS. The group that appears in Heaven as the Millennium begins are just PRIESTS. Two groups--two Raptures--two ranks in the FIRST RESURRECTION.

Think of soldiers marching in ranks. When there are lots of soldiers, there are many ranks. Everyone can't be in the first rank. They won't all fit there.

I Cor. 15:22 says, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in HIS OWN ORDER (tagmati, rank); CHRIST THE FIRSTFRUITS; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming (parousia)."

This coming is not the Second Advent. This is the "coming (parousian) of the Lord" in I Thess. 4:15, the Pre-Trib Rapture.

The First Resurrection ENDS on the first day of the Millennium, seven months before the Second Advent (Ezek. 39:12). The First Resurrection BEGAN WITH "CHRIST THE FIRSTFRUITS." Next is the group seen in Heaven in Rev. 5:9 before the Tribulation begins in Rev. 6. Last are the Tribulation saints seen in Heaven in Rev. 7:14, after the sixth seal is broken, but before the seventh seal breaks in Rev. 8. This "coming" of Christ in I Cor. 15:22 is when the next group is to be caught up "afterward," after "CHRIST THE FIRSTFRUITS." It is the Pre-Trib Rapture. James 1:18 says, "Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be A KIND OF FIRSTFRUITS of his creatures.

Christ was raised on the Feast of Firstfruits. Pentecost is also a time of firstfruits. Ex. 23:16,19 says of this "feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field (world)...The FIRST OF THE FIRSTFRUITS OF THY LAND thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God." I think Pentecost is the next RANK in the FIRST RESURRECTION.

Ranks in the First Resurrection plus projected years:
(Rank 1) Jesus Christ----------------------------------3rd Feast--Firstfruits--30 AD
(Rank 2) OT and Church saints get Resurrection bodies--4th Feast--Pentecost--2000 AD
(Rank 3) Tribulation saints get Resurrection bodies----5th Feast--Trumpets---2007 AD
All saints put on immortality
The feasts are in order.

"There is ONE body" (Eph. 4:4). "And he (Jesus) is the HEAD of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence" (Col. 1:18). The First Resurrection included Jesus. He is the head of the Body of Christ that is to be resurrected. He kicked off the First Resurrection in 30 AD. The whole First Resurrection does not come all at once on the first day of the Millennium. The last part of it takes place that day. The first part of it took place in 30 AD. The Church saints are caught up before the Tribulation begins.

A baby is not born POP! all at once. Neither is the Body of Christ born all at once. First, the HEAD is born, then the torso, then the legs and feet. And, one foot can be born a bit before the other foot, just as the CHURCH SAINTS are born a bit before the TRIBULATION SAINTS.

I Cor. 15:51-54: "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall ALL be changed (Strong's 236, allasso, made different, NOT 726, harpazo, caught up, taken by force), In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, AT THE LAST TRUMP: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." Besides the change, this is the LAST TRUMPET call "To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven" (Heb. 12:23). When there is a LAST TRUMPET call, the FIRST TRUMPET call preceded it.

In Nu. 10:1-4, "the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Make thee TWO TRUMPETS OF SILVER...that thou mayest use them for the CALLING OF THE ASSEMBLY, and FOR THE JOURNEYING OF THE CAMPS (plural). And when they shall blow with them (both), ALL the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the DOOR (symbol of a Rapture, Rev. 3:8) of the tabernacle of the congregation. And if they blow but with ONE TRUMPET, then the princes, which are heads (elders) of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee."

There is a FIRST TRUMP and a LAST TRUMP. Both are sounded before the seven trumpet judgments. They have nothing to do with the seventh trumpet of that series. The first trump is the Pre-Trib Rapture of the Bride of Christ. The last trump is the Pre-Wrath Rapture of the remnant of the Body of Christ. The seven trumpets are judgment on unbelievers, unleashed at the Judgment Seat of Christ.

The FIRST TRUMP is when the church saints are caught up to Heaven in I Thess. 4:16-18. This trump is sounded by God, not by angels. "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the TRUMP OF GOD: and the dead in Christ shall rise FIRST; Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." These words are comforting, because the FIRST TRUMP calls the Bride of Christ to Heaven before the Tribulation. These will "ESCAPE ALL THESE THINGS" (Lu. 21:36) of the Tribulation, which comes "hereafter" (Rev. 4:1).

We "shall ALL be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, AT THE LAST TRUMP." This is when all the heavenly assembly puts on IMMORTALITY. It is right after the sun, moon and stars are darkened at the sixth seal (Rev. 6:12). It is right after the whole assembly is gathered before Christ. Mark 13:27 says, "And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth (the translation of the Tribulation saints) to the uttermost part of heaven" (where the church saints have been living during the Tribulation).

John 6:39,40,44,54 (Green's Interlinear), says,
39 "And this is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I should not lose any of it, but should raise it up IN THE LAST DAY (en te eschate hemera).
40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes on Him should have everlasting life--and I will raise him up AT THE LAST DAY (te eschate hemera).
44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draw him, and I will raise him up AT THE LAST DAY (te eschate hemera).
54 He that eats My flesh and drinks My blood has everlasting life, and I will raise him up IN THE LAST DAY (te eschate hemera)."

Jesus said, "that of all that He has given Me I should not lose ANY of it." At the FIRST TRUMP, some can be castaways like the foolish virgins. Paul was running the race to win the PRIZE of the Pre-Trib Rapture, so as to not "be a castaway" (I Cor. 9:27). In Phil. 3:14, he said, "I press toward THE MARK for THE PRIZE of the HIGH CALLING OF GOD (the FIRST TRUMP) in Christ Jesus."

Since not all in the race can win the PRIZE of being caught up with the Bride of Christ, Jesus has made provision that he should not lose ANY one that believes in him. The remainder will be caught up with the Tribulation saints "that of all that He has given Me I should not lose any of it, but should raise it up IN THE LAST DAY," i.e., at the LAST TRUMP. At that time, the only requirement to be met is to be a believer. Jesus said, "He that eats My flesh and drinks My blood has everlasting life, and I will raise him up IN THE LAST DAY."

We can repent and be a spotless wise virgin and be chosen as the Bride of Christ. Those will be caught up in the rank that goes up at THE FIRST TRUMP before the Tribulation. Or, we can choose not to repent and be wearing robes spotted by the flesh. These are foolish virgins that will get left behind the first time. They will be caught up at THE LAST TRUMP.

When we find a term like "at the last day," we have to figure out what series it is the last of, last day of the week, year, age, or millennium. As above, it can be the last in a different type of series, the different RANKS in the FIRST RESURRECTION.

In Acts 2 and Joel 2, we find that the phrase "IN THE LAST DAYS" means something entirely different from what we have been discussing. There are seven 1000-year days. Anything that takes place after four of the seven have passed is also called "IN THE LAST DAYS." It is similar to our living in the last age in Time, the very same age in which the Crucifixion took place. Heb. 9:26 says that once "in the end of the world (sunteleia ton aionon, FULL END OF THE AGES) hath he (Jesus) appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself."

In Acts 2:16-21 (Green's Interlinear), Peter said, "But this is that which the prophet Joel has spoken. And it shall happen IN THE LAST DAYS (en tais eschatais hemerais, i.e., in TWO l000-year days, i.e., in this Age of the Church), God says, I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh. And your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. And also I will pour out of My Spirit on My slaves and slave-girls in those days, and they shall prophesy. And i will give wonders in the heavens above and miracles on the earth below--blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and glorious DAY OF THE LORD (hemeran kuriou ten) (the Millennium). And it shall be (after the sixth seal) that EVERYONE (ALL) who shall call on the name of the Lord will be saved."

We know that the "DAY OF THE LORD" is the Millennium. The word "hemera" (day) does not have to mean a 24-hour day. It is a period of time to be understood by the context. It can mean a 24-hour day, a time, a while, years or even an age. Also, last day/days for the church could be different than last day/days for Israel. We have to read Scripture very carefully to be able to discern which day/days is meant.

Acts 2:18's "IN THE LAST DAYS" (plural) helps us understand Joel 2:28. Think of the seven 1000-year days. The Crucifixion was "IN THE LAST DAYS." It was in the 5th great day. The Second Advent is also "IN THE LAST DAYS," which are the last great 1000-year days, 5, 6 and 7, which started in BC 3. The great days 5 and 6 are the 2000-year Age of the Church.

Joel 2:27-32: 3:1,2 (KJV) says, "ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel (he is there at the First Advent and at the Second Advent), and that I am the LORD (YHVH) your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass AFTERWARD (i.e., it happened after the First Advent and will happen after the Second Advent), that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh...And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood before (at the sixth seal) the great and the terrible DAY OF THE LORD come (at the seventh seal). And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion (the heavenly one) AND in Jerusalem (the earthly one) shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call (the remnant who live on into the Millennium). FOR, behold, in those DAYS, and in that TIME, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather ALL NATIONS (united nations), and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat (east of Jerusalem), and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and PARTED MY LAND."

De. 31:29 says, "evil will befall you (Israel) IN THE LATTER DAYS, because ye will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger." They should not part his land. They should trust the Lord, but they didn't when they spied out the land, and they still don't.

We are living in these LATTER DAYS that encompass both big outpourings of the Holy Spirit, in 30 AD and, I think, in 2008 AD. Micah 5:2,3 says, "But thou Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Therefore will he GIVE THEM UP, UNTIL the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth (the Day of God's Wrath, the first day of the Millennium): then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel."

Jer. 23:19,20 also says, "IN THE LATTER DAYS." Jeremiah said, "Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of THE WICKED (i.e., the wicked one, the False Prophet). The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: IN THE LATTER DAYS ye shall consider (biyn, understand) it perfectly." Today, we can understand that an asteroid will impact Earth. We are living in these LATTER DAYS.

In these LAST, or LATTER, 1000-year days, we already understand about the asteroid. Israel has already started giving land for peace. We are very near the Pre-Trib Rapture. Ehud Barak wants to get the process going toward a FINAL STATUS AGREEMENT within 15 months from 7-20-1999.

Titus 2:12-15 says, "denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world (age); Looking for that BLESSED HOPE, AND THE GLORIOUS APPEARING of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us that he might redeem us FROM ALL INIQUITY, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee."

II Tim. 4:1 says, "I CHARGE thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick (living) and the dead AT HIS APPEARING (the Pre-Trib Rapture) AND his kingdom (the Judgment Seat of Christ on the first day of the Millennium). In verse 8, Paul said, "Henceforth there is laid up for me a CROWN of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me AT THAT DAY (of the Pre-Trib Rapture): and not to me only, but unto all them also that LOVE HIS APPEARING.

Paul is one of the elders that have their crowns in Rev. 4:4, before the first seal is broken in Rev. 6, which is the Tribulation. We also will have crowns at that time. Rev. 3:11 says, "Behold, I COME quickly (at the Pre-Trib Rapture): hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown." I am holding fast. Agape
