Scientists have discovered an ancient coastline 550 feet below the surface of the Black Sea, providing dramatic new evidence of a sudden, catastrophic flood around 7,500 years ago--the possible source of the Old Testament story of Noah.
A team of deep-sea explorers this summer captured the first sonar images of a gentle berm and a sandbar submerged undisturbed for thousands of years on the sea floor. Now, using radiocarbon dating techniques, analysts have shown that the remains of freshwater mollusks subsequently dredged from the ancient beach date back 7,500 years and saltwater species begin showing up 6,900 years ago.
Explorer Robert D. Ballard, who led the team that collected the shells, said the findings indicate a flood occurred sometime during the 600-year gap.
"What we wanted to do is prove to ourselves that it was the biblical flood," Ballard said...
The findings offer independent verification of a theory advanced by Columbia University geologists William Ryan and Walter Pitman that the Black Sea was created when melting glaciers raised the sea level until the sea breached a natural dam at what is now the Bosporus, the strait that separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Black Sea.
An apocalyptic deluge followed, inundating the freshwater lake below the dam, submerging thousands of square miles of dry land, flipping the ecosystem from fresh water to salt practically overnight, and probably killing thousands of people and billions of land and sea creatures, according to Ryan and Pitman....
And regardless of the historical context, the science of the Black Sea flood stands undisputed. Ryan and Pitman dated the event at 7,600 years ago, and they fixed the likely depth of the ancient coastline almost exactly where Ballard found it....
The region's main archaeological attraction has always been the Black Sea itself, composed mostly of dense Mediterranean salt water that immediately plunged to the bottom of the freshwater lake when the Bosporus gave way 7,500 years ago.
Ever since, the less dense water on top has acted as a 500-foot-deep lid on a 7,000-foot-deep oxygen-free abyss--a watery wilderness...
My reply Thanks. Ed found an AP article, "Noah's flood backed Black Sea area awash 7,000 years ago," in our Press-Enterprise, 11-20-99. "The man who tracked down the Titanic...has found evidence that the Black Sea was inundated in a giant flood about 7,000 years ago--perhaps the biblical flood of Noah...Robert Ballard...used side-scan sonar...He found, well out to sea, an ancient coastline and a change from freshwater to saltwater mollusks dating from about 7,000 years ago....Ballard scooped up a bucket of shells from the ancient shoreline--now 550 feet below the sea's surface. They included both extinct freshwater mollusks, presumably from before the flood, and saltwater mollusks from the postflood era, and were radiocarbon-dated. The most recent date for the freshwater shells was about 7,460 years ago, while the oldest saltwater shells dated to 6,820 years ago. That indicates a change about 7,000 years in the past...."
According to my Bible Chronology, Noah's Flood was in 1656 AH (BC 2387). 2387 + 1999 - 1 (no zero yr.) = 4385 years ago.
However, 4043 BC (beginning of the Dispensation of Innocence) + 1999 - 1 = 6041 years. I think Adam was in the Garden of Eden 40 years, and man's test being mortal and knowing both good and evil started after Adam's 40-years of probation and testing. I think those 6000 years ended in 1998.
My guess is that the catastrophe Ballard found evidence of was before Adam. "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth," but then afterward, the Earth was made waste and empty by judgment. "And the earth was (lit., became) without form, and void; and DARKNESS was upon the face of the deep" (Gen. 1:1,2).
When the curse (asteroid) of Zech 5:1-4 is to destroy the Beast and False Prophet's houses, the LORD "will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country" (Iraq, where Babylon is located) (Isa. 22:18). "Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it UPSIDE DOWN, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants....because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the CURSE devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left" (Isa. 24:1,5,6).
These two asteroid impacts, the one before Adam and the one on the first day of the millennial Day of the Lord, are probably both indicated in Jer. 4:23-28. It says, "I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was NO MAN." Here we see transition. In the former days, Adam was not yet present. In the end times, the men hide themselves and say to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and HIDE US from the face of him that sitteth on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come" (Rev. 6:16,17).
Continuing, Jer. 4 says, "and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence (paneh, face, i.e., the Sign of the Son of Man, Mt. 24:30) of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this (the asteroid impact) shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be BLACK: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, heither will I turn back from it."
I think the asteroid impact will be brought about by a whirlwind of the LORD. Jer. 23:18-20 says, "For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of THE WICKED. The ANGER of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider (biyn, understand) it perfectly."
As we better understand the asteroid impact of the future, we can better understand the one of the past. What is to be has already been. The "secrets of wisdom...they are double (as if carbon copies) to that which is!" (Job. 11:6).
If the Earth is to be turned upside down as the Millennium begins, the Earth was probably turned upside down before Adam was put on it. Can you imagine what happened to the ocean?
On the third day, "God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place (the Pacific Basin, from where I think the Moon was born), and let the dry land qppear" (Gen. 1:9).
I knew the Dead Sea area was excessively salty, but I find it very interesting that God has seen fit to bring to light another corroborative fact that I only learned recently because of the drought in Israel. The bottom of the Sea of Galilee is also salt water. The fresh water rides on top of the salt water, and they are dangerously near using up all of the fresh.
The Black Sea and the Sea of Galilee share the same characteristic, fresh water riding on the deep salt water. I look at my map and think, "How did the salt waters of the Mediterranean get into the Black Sea and the Sea of Galilee directly south of the Black Sea?" An asteroid impact could do it.
Now it makes good sense why the healing waters of the river of the sanctuary will be needed in the Millennium. Eze. 47:1-11 says, "Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar....Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea (the Dead Sea): which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be HEALED. And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall LIVE: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be HEALED; and everything shall live whither the river cometh. And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon it from En-gedi even unto En-eglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, AS THE FISH OF THE GREAT SEA (the Mediterranean), exceeding many. But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall NOT BE HEALED; they shall be given to SALT."
Nahum 1:2-9 says, "God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth...and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth WRATH for his enemies. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the WHIRLWIND and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebuketh THE SEA (one asteroid piece hits the Mediterranean, Rev. 8:8; Zeph. 2:4,5), and maketh it DRY, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon lanuisheth. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the EARTH IS BURNED at his presence (paneh, face, i.e., the Sign of the Son of Man, Mt. 24:30), yea, THE WORLD, AND ALL THAT DWELL THEREIN. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his ANGER? his FURY (Eze. 38:18) is poured out like fire, and THE ROCKS ARE THROWN DOWN BY HIM. The LORD is good, a strong hold in the DAY OF TROUBLE; and he knoweth them that trust in him. But WITH AN OVERRUNNING FLOOD he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and DARKNESS shall pursue his enemies. What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: AFFLICTION SHALL NOT RISE UP THE SECOND TIME."
In the past, some have thought that the Mediterranean Sea could have been dry at one time. There is a shelf at the Straights of Gibralter over which the waters of the Atlantic flow. Do you suppose that the Mediterranean Basin was excavated by asteroid impact at some time in the past?
Concerning both the catastrophe before the first Adam's rule and the catastrophe before the Second Adam's rule on Earth, Isa. 51:9 says, "Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD (Christ, Isa. 53:1); awake, AS IN THE ANCIENT DAYS, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut (split) Rahab (Satan's planet, now the Asteroid Belt), and wounded the dragon (Satan)?"
Job 26:11-14 (Jerus. Bible) says, "The pillars of the heavens tremble, awe-struck at his threats. By his power, he has whipped up the Sea, by his skill, HE HAS CRUSHED RAHAB. His breath has made the heavens luminous (the blackness of space lit up by the impact explosions?), his hand transfixed the Fleeing Serpent (Satan). This is only a fraction of what he has done and all we catch of it is the feeblest ECHO."
