Thanks for your prayers that Ed's cataract surgery would go well. It was hard as a rock, making it hard on the doctor and on Ed. The doctor said Ed should have had it taken out a year ago. We can't reroll that. A different doctor told him last year that he didn't think Ed was ready. This morning, Ed couldn't even see the big E until the doctor put drops and ointment in his eye. It will be awhile before Ed can tell how much better he can see. His corneas aren't in the best of shape, either. We can understand that, his mother had 6 cornea transplants and still ended up blind in one eye, low vision in the other.
Top investigators of the Columbia space shuttle disaster are analyzing a startling photograph -- snapped by an amateur astronomer from a San Francisco hillside -- that appears to show a purplish electrical bolt striking the craft as it streaked across the California sky.
The digital image is one of five snapped by the shuttle buff at roughly 5: 53 a.m. Saturday as sensors on the doomed orbiter began showing the first indications of trouble. Seven minutes later, the craft broke up in flames over Texas....
In the critical shot, a glowing purple rope of light corkscrews down toward the plasma trail, appears to pass behind it, then cuts sharply toward it from below. As it merges with the plasma trail, the streak itself brightens for a distance, then fades....
...Debris was found in several eastern Texas cities including Palestine and Texarkana. There have been no reports of any injuries on the ground....
...The comments by Milt Heflin, the space agency's flight director, cast doubt on the lead theory that a piece of foam insulation damaged the craft during blast off.
"Did we take some hit? That's a possibility. Something was breached," he has told the Los Angeles Times.
William Ailor, president of Aerospace Corporation, said Nasa has had to adjust the flight path of shuttles at least eight times to avoid large pieces of debris....
...In the footage shown by CNN, Ramon was in the cockpit of the shuttle, displaying for the camera a coin from 69 AD. On one side of the coin were the words "For the Redemption of Zion." That coin was on the flight of Columbia. Are all of these things just strange coincidences? I think not....
Additional commentary about "Palestine" From the New York Times:
In a twist of nomenclature that would seem plausible only in fiction, a craft carrying Col. Ilan Ramon of the Israeli Air Force apparently broke up near an East Texas town called Palestine....
The main search area was about 100 miles (160 km) to 120 miles (190 km) long and about 10 miles (16 km) wide, stretching from Palestine, Texas, to the small east Texas town of Hemphill near the Louisiana border.
I don't call you selfish. You are just short-sighted, thinking in terms of this world, as if it would go on forever as it is now. Evidently, you have reached the age of accountability without having enough knowledge of Heaven, Hell and Bible prophecy to make a wise choice. Heaven is your best alternative.
You don't seem to have any idea what people will be facing that are still on this Earth during the coming Tribulation. It will be the worst 7 years since Adam was put on Earth. You seem to have no idea what a wonderful place Heaven is, or what a terrible place Hell is, or that life there is eternal.
1Co 2:9 says, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."
Rev 21:4 says, "God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Why do you think they are crying in the first place? It is because there is so much death, sorrow, crying and pain.
An asteroid will impact Earth and every wall will fall in the worldwide earthquake. This globe will literally be turned upside down. The dead will lay around the Earth. The cities of the nations will be destroyed. Civilization as we know it will be wiped out. If you get to that time, you will want someone to save you out of that mess. You will be glad to trade life on Earth for life in Heaven, a better place, and only your confessed faith in Jesus Christ can get you there. Acts 4:12 says, "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Rom 10:9,10 says, "if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Abraham has been given a choice where he wants to live, Heaven or Earth. Having seen both, he chose Heaven. Can you trust his judgment? or Noah's? how about Sarah's? Heb. 11:15,16 speaks of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and Sarah gaining God's promises by faith. Then it says, "truly, if they had been mindful of that country (Earth) from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire A BETTER COUNTRY, THAT IS, AN HEAVENLY: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city."
"i dunno" about you, but as for me, I choose to live in the heavenly New Jerusalem that Jesus has prepared for me. In John 14:2,3, Jesus said, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." Agape
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Leaders of world religions appealed to believers in all faiths to work to avert a conflict in Iraq as anti-war protests gathered pace around the world.
"As conflicts divide neighbors and nations and the threat of war hangs over us like a shadow, too many people see and employ religion as a force of divisiveness and violence, rather than a force for unity and peace," the representatives said in a concluding statement issued Saturday at the end of a symposium.
THE VATICAN SPONSORED MEETING
was attended by representatives of CHRISTIANITY, JUDAISM, ISLAM, HINDUISM, BUDDHISM, JAINISM, ZOROASTRIANISM AND SIKHISM....

Rev. 7:9,14,15 says, "After this (the sealing of the 144,000 Israelites) I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands...These are they which came out (were raptured out) of great tribulation (latter part of the Tribulation), and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them." Agape
...According to Josephus, King Solomon placed a large treasure of gold and silver in the tomb (of David), including the crown of King David. Some eight hundred years later, Hyrkanus removed three hundred silver bars to give to Antiochus. Herod later sought to do the same thing, but when he sent two boys there in the middle of the night, he watched as flames of fire lashed out of the cave and killed them. He subsequently sealed the entrance and built a beautiful monument over it....
The Christians had constructed some kind of a large, elevated platform on Mount Zion. As time went by, one of the platform walls collapsed. The church patriarch called to one of his friars and told him to rebuild it, using stones from the ancient retaining walls of Mount Zion. The friar hired a dozen Arab workers and they began to remove the stones, one by one.
One morning, one of the workers invited his companion to feast with him before going to work. When they finally arrived at Mount Zion, the friar scolded them for coming late.
"Don’t worry," said the Arab. "When all the other workers stop for the day, we will continue working."
As they worked alone late that afternoon, they took out a large stone, revealing the entrance to a cave.
"Let’s crawl inside and see if there’s a treasure there," whispered one breathlessly to the other.
Inside, they were able to walk upright. After a short passage, they found themselves at the entrance to a chamber built with marble pillars that were overlaid with silver and gold. Before them they saw a gold table with a golden scepter and crown resting on it. That was the grave of King David. To the left, they saw the grave of King Solomon. Further away were the graves of other kings of Israel. Besides this, they noticed treasure chests with unknown contents.
Gathering their courage, they proceeded to enter. Suddenly, a turbulent wind struck them down on the ground. They lay there unconscious until nightfall. Then another wind whistled by them with a human voice screaming, "Arise! Get out of here at once!"
They scrambled out of the cave as fast as their legs could carry them. Petrified and in a state of shock, they dashed to the patriarch and told him everything that had occurred. Realizing that this was an ancient Jewish site, the church official thought that the Jews might help to unravel the mystery behind the Arabs’ story. He therefore summoned Rav Avraham HaChassid of Constantinople, who was living in Jerusalem at the time, hoping that this saintly Jew could help explain the mysterious tale.
After hearing the Arabs’ story, Rav Avraham said, "The cave is the burial place of the kings of the House of David. Tomorrow we will enter there with these Arabs and see for ourselves."
The next morning Rav Avraham and the patriarch waited for the two workers to arrive. When they failed to appear, the patriarch sent a messenger to bring them. The messenger returned and reported, "I found them lying dead in their beds!"
Shivers rippled over the listeners’ bodies.
"This is a sign and a warning," said the pious Jew, "that G-d does not wish to show this holy spot to any human being."
The patriarch agreed. He had the entrance to the cave sealed shut and the stones returned to their place....
Thus, until this very day, the crown of King David remains by his grave in the underground cave. Perhaps the reason for it is that the first king - King David - is waiting to bequeath it to the last king, the Messiah, may he come soon in our days.
...Near to David’s tomb is a building that recalls the place, Jesus partook of the Last Supper called the Coenaculum, a second-floor room on Mt. Zion that his disciples prepared for the meal that many believed was the Passover Seder [Matthew 26:26-28]. Others recall this as the site of the Pentecost though the narrative does not specify the exact location when the Spirit came upon the Apostles [Acts 2:2-4]. After his arrest by the Romans, Jesus was held at the house of Caiaphas the High Priest in an affluent neighborhood on Mt. Zion.
According to the Bible, David "rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David" [1 Kings 2:10). Yet by the 12th century, when world traveler Rabbi Benjamin Tudela visited Jerusalem, Mt. Zion had been identified as the site of King David’s Tomb. Though biblical scholars agree that David was buried on the slope below, Jews - and Moslems, who also revere King David - make pilgrimages to the tomb and pray at the site....
...King David’s Tomb King David's traditional burial place is located on Mount Zion, one floor below the Last Supper room. The tombstone dates from Crusader times and is covered with a red velvet cloth embroidered with a Star of David....

...Something that no one else is noticing, Shimon Peres is the number two man in Labor. What is amazing about that is he didn’t have to run for that position like all those under him did. It was handed to him on a platter. Like always he has found himself in high position without having to get any votes. For decades Shimon Peres has stayed in high position without having to run for office or get any votes. The truth is, he could not get enough votes even in his own party to come in much better than last place. But he is in position to move into the leadership position as soon as Mitzna steps down and he will. Like a vulture and by the way his name in Hebrew translates to just that Vulture, he waits for his time to finish the job he started with Oslo. And many more will die for the vulture only feeds on the dead....
...The tablet, with its ancient Hebrew inscription, is believed by some to have once hung in the long-lost First Temple of Judaism, built by King Solomon to house the Ten Commandments and burned to the ground by the Babylonians in 586 B.C.
The plaque's owner...claims it was found near Jerusalem's Old City, a Muslim-controlled area of Jerusalem that includes the Al-Aqsa mosque....
As one collector in the notoriously cutthroat Israeli antiquities market said, the tablet "is being guarded like a nuclear secret."
If the tablet is indeed genuine, and if scientists could prove it was discovered near the Temple Mount as the owner claims, the dispute would be settled. But not everyone believes the tablet is genuine. Chief among the objections is that the grammar of the inscriptions seems, in parts, to be closer to Aramaic or Phoenician than ancient Hebrew.
"It could only be made in modern times," said Dr. Yosef Naveh, a world-renowned expert on alphabets and one of the very few people to have seen the tablet. "It is not genuine."
If the 30-centimetre-long plaque is a fake, the forger has fooled the Florida laboratory as well as a team of respected scientists from the Geological Survey of Israel.
The results of carbon-dating on tiny flecks of organic matter in the patina -- the dirt and film that collect on artifacts over time -- suggests this film started to form as early as 400 BC....
The Israeli team also found tiny beads of gold embedded in the plaque's patina -- an exceedingly rare thing to find in the dirt and silt that settles over the ground of Israel.
"Such globules of pure gold can be formed by intense burning of pure gold," the report says. Its presence "is possibly evidence of conflagration of buildings decorated with gold, such as the First Temple ... the patina that covers the tablet, including the letters, crack and fractures, was formed after this tablet was buried in a soil containing gold globules and carbon particles."
Dr. Shimon Ilani, a member of the Israeli scientific team, said a single person could not have carried out such a convincing forgery....
Dr. Ilani and his colleagues theorized that the plaque hung on one of the the gilt walls of the First Temple, which was built of stone and cypress. When it burned in the Babylonians' attack, tiny globules of gold -- just one micrometre wide -- settled in the dirt of the surrounding area. The plaque lay in this dirt and the patina formed over it until a Jerusalem man discovered it a few years ago in a Muslim graveyard near the eastern wall of the Old City....
The plaque describes the efforts of Yehoash, King of Judea, to renovate the First Temple...It is described with the same turns of phrase used in Kings II, 12:1-6 and 11-17.
In the mid-1990s, an Israeli scholar named Nadav Na'aman speculated in a journal article that the scribe who compiled the book of Kings II in the 7th century BC was working from information contained in a plaque from the First Temple.
"Here this plaque shows up," said Hershel Shanks, the editor of the Biblical Archeology Review, a scientific journal that plans to feature the plaque in an upcoming issue. "Maybe the forger knew about [Na'aman's] article, but if he didn't, then it's a remarkable confirmation of biblical text."...
Dr. Naveh, however, says the content of the script is just too good -- and the grammar too bad -- to be true.
In the late summer of 2001, he was summoned by the owner to a clandestine meeting at a Jerusalem hotel. The owner was not there. In his place was an Israeli man named Isaac Tzur and a young Arab boy.
After swearing Dr. Naveh to secrecy, they showed him the plaque and said it had been discovered in a graveyard, with the inscription facing down.
Dr. Naveh said he judged it to be a forgery.
"There are modern usages of some verbs, there are letter forms that cannot go together; they are not ancient Hebrew. They are either Aramaic or Phoenician," he said. "There are other letters that have more developed forms fitting 7th century Hebrew."
A few weeks later, on Sept. 24, 2001, the owner delivered it to the Geological Survey for carbon-dating. Dr. Naveh broke his silence only after this team announced its findings....
"You have this tremendous divide [in the scholarly community]. More than I've ever seen," he said, adding that geologists, in general, are convinced the artifact is genuine, with most of the objection coming from archeologists, who note how no supervised excavation was ever carried out at the plaque's supposed site of discovery.
"Nothing is certain about this," Mr. Shanks said. "How did the gold get in the patina? Maybe the forger was smart enough to put it there. On the other hand, it could have been the fire that destroyed the Temple."

Archaeologists dig up some of Nebuchadnezzar's legacy Boraippa, Iraq -December 3, 1998--AP
After 20 years of digging, Austrian archaeologists say they've determined the design of a Mesopotamian ziggurat -- a temple tower -- built by King Nebuchadnezzar some 2,500 years ago....the ruler who ordered the destruction of the ancient Jewish temple in Jerusalem, they add.
The temple of Borsippa, 75 miles south of Baghdad, was constructed atop the ruins of a smaller tower from the second millennium B.C....the Borsippa ziggurat has best survived the ravages of time.
The Austrians removed thousands of tons of debris from the mound that gradually built up around the tower over the ages and uncovered most of the ziggurat's remains, which still rise to 172 feet....
The first two levels were covered with bitumen and were black. The third, fourth and fifth were decorated with blue-glazed bricks and possibly adorned with bulls and lions. The sixth and seventh terraces, close to the sanctuary, were wholly made of mud brick....
"There must have been a big library of cuneiform tablets here, but we have missed it so far," she said. Among her finds are several tablets and a foundation stone with inscriptions detailing why and how Nebuchadnezzar constructed the tower in Borsippa. One text says the king wanted the Borsippa built on the same design as that of the Tower of Babel, of which only THE FOUNDATION SURVIVES in Babylon seven miles to the north.
Another text quotes Nebuchadnezzar as declaring that Nabu's tower should reach the skies and be no less in grandeur than that of Babel, which was dedicated to the god Marduk....
Jer 50:2, the verse I saw a rectangle of light on, says, "Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces." Everything about the Mystery Religion of Babylon will be destroyed. Rev. 18:21 says, "a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone (i.e., the asteroid), and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all."
